Well last night it was working, i remember looking over my chan folder.
Well i got home today with my friends computer (which needed a fresh copy of windows, and i have all my cds and stuff at home) i hooked everything up got it running good.
Well i hooked up my external so i could put some tools on his comp, but it wasn't showing up. I just figured it was his computer being shitty.
Well i re-hooked my comp back up and i went to play some songs on my playlist... but they woulden't play. It coulden't find the files, so i went to go to my external to put them back up there and it didn't show up...
I tried unplugging it and replugging it but nothing.
Windows shows everything to work but its just not showing up for some reason or other.
Could it be the cable?
Could the external be fucked?
Could something in the case have come loose? i think it might have fell last night.

You also might just try entering the address of the drive directly.

In the explorer address bar try E: and J: and other letters not taken up by your DVD/hard drives.

If all else fails and it cannot detect, take the whole thing apart and remove the harddrive and plug into your computer see if it's the enclosure's fault. If not, it's fubared, next time dont drop the damn thing

that's what I figured had happened.

btw diskmgmt.msc is a component of computer management, hence why I had told you to check it

Since you lost information on it already, do not put anything more important on there. Besides, you should be disemboweled for not backing up to another source, whether it be CD, DVD, Floppy, another harddrive, Tape, or anything else you can write information to. If it's important, back it up, it doesnt take long and it definitely pays off.

Nothing of Vast importance was lost, few gigs of music a couple games, some programs, some pictures from 4chan (around one thousand).

If it was something that was very important i would have backed it up...

but i never really thought my External would just shit out like that.

External harddrives are desktop drives put into enclosures. Most of the time they are discontinued/not enough in stock to sell drives that they can't sell for good enough profit so they throw it in a cheap enclosure.

The only type of external drive I myself use is laptop 2.5" ones. Laptop drives have a bit more durability in terms of it being moved around.
