lol that's what the next highest level was in the bios...

But ok, even if the processor is fried, wouldn't at least a message be displayed on screen?

Computer cannot function without a working processor. Need to see if the motherboard is still good, take the processor out and run the machine, it should give atleast some sort of POST code. If it doesnt, double check to make sure the speaker is plugged in correctly, because god knows you've f*cked everything else up in this little endeavor.

Don't even attempt to bring a friend's computer into this, because you will f*ck his sh*t up as well. Get it fixed and leave it the f*ck alone.

BTW, that is really bad spread of thermal compound.

Nah I did what Arctic said to, put a small dot in the center, put the hsf on and use it to spread it around slightly and it has worked fine since, kept the cpu nice and cool.

I guess you missed the part where it said to apply a dime sized lot of thermal compound, and spread it from corner to corner with a credit card or flat surfaced object.

Well I'm pretty sure the motherboard still works because the hd activity led still blinks on bootup, etc...so I'm just going to get a new processor...be back in a week or so lol.

Get a fucking creditcard and spread the thermalpaste properly next time, cuz honestly my guess is that you burned it with the Voltage, kinda like trying to pump 200watts into a 60w bulb.

Okay! Whatever floats your boat, dead motherboards will do all sorts of crazy sh*t. I've had it to where it boots up normally and just shuts off and needs a reflash of the CMOS to get it going again, all the way to the LED's making a nice little pattern of dancing lights. Since the motherboard is dead it will do whatever the hell it wants to.

I personally like the motherboards with the onboard speaker that actually tells you what's wrong with it.

ya chris, ive got to agree with everyone, my 5600+ runs at 1.33volts, looks like you screwed over your cpu with that voltage jump.
Just out of curiosity, stick you nose right next to the cpu and tell me if you can smell burnt electronic....

BTW this is what the CPU looks like:

So if the CPU were broken could I get another one and the mobo/hsf would still work? The slot looks fine and so does the cooler.

On the right side of the CPU, is that just a shadow or is the whole right edge brown/burnt lol?

My latest CPU cooler came with a sort of nail polish bottle of paste. It worked great, just apply it liberally with the brush and then you have a thin consistent layer of thermal compound.
