Alright so the processor I ordered finally came, I installed it with the hsf and everything. The problem is that when I turn it on it seems like it's starting up and then about 1 second later it shuts itself off. Is this a PSU issue?

hm, either that or the motherboard, not really much else that could be wrong... I'd have to say the motherboard because if it was a PSU issue, it probably wouldn't even boot up for that 1 sec

Well after a few tries of starting it up and whatnot, now it doesn't even do anything when I turn it on. However, even when it's off the light on my mouse it still on and I can turn Num Lock on and off on the keyboard but nothing else lol, this is fucking gay.

Pretty sure I did, there's some black on the edges of the old one.

And this is why I don't overclock my computer. Buy what you need, and don't worry about that crap.

And now for something completely different...

Sounds like you have a video problem there pal. You saying you are still able to turn numlock on and off makes me think your problem lies with your video. I suggest removing your video card as soon as possible. If you have onboard video, try using that. If that seems to work, I would suspect either your motherboard or your video card. I say this because your keyboard uses power drawn from the motherboard which is drawn from the psu. Granted the problem could still be the psu, the video card or motherboard seem more likely. Right now removing your video card and trying onboard seems like a more cost efficient way of troubleshooting.

If you have tried these things already, disregard anything that I have typed.

EDIT: Sorry, I am a bit drunk and didn't read all of your posts.

Anyways, I have seen things as small as a modem causing a boot loop (a computer posting then rebooting over and over) or shutting down after posting. Your best bet would be to remove all of your pci cards and see if it boots. If not, remove your video card and alternate removal of your memory. If no progress, I would suspect your motherboard, but a new psu from your local electronics store would be the cheapest way of testing (because you could return the item if it did not fix the problem). If no progress with a new PSU, then I would order a motherboard. But, it could also be a combination of these things.

Anyways, you can always pm me if you need some more help. I would even mail you a free psu tester if you needed one. Let me know.

But why would the problem be with the video card? It's pretty new and as I said now the computer wont even turn on. The PSU isn't even 2 years old yet so it should be fine. I don't understand how just the video card fucking up could cause the whole computer to not turn on. Also, I highly doubt RAM is the issue, I've never had a problem with this RAM and again, how could just the RAM cause problems? Meh if it's the video card I can get a new one but I don't think it is.

But like I said, even when the processor was fried the computer would still turn on and since I put the new one in, the first couple of times it would turn on very briefly (not even long enough for the hard drive to spin up) and now it won't turn on at all. Ok so a new PSU, if that doesn't work then an RMA on the video card (provided my x1800 will make it work) and if that doesn't work then an RMA on the motherboard. Fucking hell, why are computers so sensitive.

Please, by all means chris, take your time. Vent has been rather enjoyable the last few weeks

That's probably because you're fooling with the voltage of the current running through wiring that's much thinner then the diameter of one of your hairs.

So we replacing everything but the one other part that would have failed in this particular instance? The motherboard?

Even then, try the parts in another computer for christs sake, even the power supply, can use it on pretty much ANY computer.

if Anything, your motherboard is probably indeed quite fucked due to you over-volting it, so I'd honestly suggest leaving the PC alone and unplugged until things get sorted, because where it stands, you could be just putting good parts into a bad board and breaking them repeatedly.

Yes the mobo is fucked, so I'm about to stick a new one in there..

edit: ok got a new mobo, if I stick it in there what are the chances of the processor (new one) fucking everything up again?

It should run smoothly, but don't go and start f*cking with the voltage
