as suspected, it beats a 295 in a good bit of games, and to boot its 100$ cheaper.

Why? When you can just run the single 5870 and most likely come out ahead in performance. When you crossfire both cards go as fast as the slowest one in the chain. So if you triple crossfire a 4870, a 4850, and a 5870, all 3 cards are going to run at 4850 speeds. Better off selling the card and putting to towards the purchase of the new one because it will be better in the long run.
