hey guys, I think it's about time I upgrade from my samsung with a native resolution of 1440x900 to something....a little more pleasing of the eyes.
I'm not familiar with Hanns-G, all I have heard are some good and some bad, i'm currently looking at this model Hanns , pretty much all the reviews are good, and I cant seem to think "why not?", plus I am also upgrading my video card with this purchase, definitely going with a 5850, unless the price of the 5870's comes down by the time I get my tax returns.
So what are your opinions on Hanns'G?

also what about Asus monitors? Asus

Unfortunately no comment on the given since i have very limited knowledge of them; if memory serves, Asus makes decent monitors - never had a Hanns...

I've been buying acer, though, and im not disappointed in the slightest. My newest purchase would be this; sleek, excellent screen, plenty of cables for whatever you desire (on-board speakers are useless, but meh). While re-finding that, i came across this; very overpriced imho, but if your at all interested in the 3d hype/revolution/contamination, would suggest it...

I had a very nice 21" Hanns-G for a while, still works like a charm. Its old, but it looks very nice and is pretty high-quality. Never had any experience with Asus monitors, but thats my 2 cents on Hanns-G.

Well I am currently running 3 x 22" Asus monitors, same monitor you linked at newegg but they are 22 instead of 24. Not one has a dead pixel, and they have very minimal backlight bleeding. Overall I have purchased almost 50 varying sizes of Asus monitors and not one has had a issue with any dead pixels or the customer complaining of any issues.

As far as Hanns-G though........... Let's say I will never order any Hanns-G branded products, out of the 24 I ordered because they were a 'good deal' last year. 13 of them I have had to RMA due to them randomly shutting off. Could be a particular lot of monitors but this is unacceptable to me. Shows cheap component selection for manufacturing and/or quality control. They were all purchased in close proximity of each other in a 1-2 month time frame and were from 19" to 22" size monitors of varying model #'s.

Acer's, kind of a crapshoot, they have a bit more backlight bleed than I care for. Then again I am pretty picky as far as monitors and displays are concerned. Also these are sub 150$ models so can't ask for too much from them. Have ordered dozens and dozens for basic office machines and they all have held up well. Only have had 1 come back for RMA, but that was because of a backlight going out. 1 out of a good 50-100 is not bad at all :P

The 2nd one im running (a nice 21.5") has some bleeding along the top...but the 24" one thats currently my primary and the one that i linked above looks perfect.

Yeah, on Acer's 'higher end' models backlight bleed is very minimal, it's on their sub 150$ monitors do you really notice. Which is probably why they got so dang cheap and usually are the best deals to get :P

well i'm going with the acer, just looks like a better deal all around, and read alot of great reviews on it, I just hope to get my taxes soon, this monitor is on it's last legs, i'm pretty sure the back light is dying, I haven't been able to turn it off/on without it getting this "shimmering effect" that resembles an old fluorescent light that need to warm up before it stops flickering, really f*cking annoying.
I had it turned on for the past 2 days with not a problem, and then my wife decided to use the computer, and turned off the monitor, now the shimmer wont go away....sooo pissed.

well, I went ahead and got the 24" asus monitor along with a new thermaltake 850watt power supply and a sapphire 5850, and overall, I'm loving it, however the 1920x1080 setting is eh.....makes it look extremely sharp (using HDMI) but it refuses to fill the whole screen, so I said f*ck it and sticking to the 1680x1050.

try DVI first and see, because non-native on an LCD is kinda fail with a lot of the cheaper TN panels.

yeah, tried the DVI connection, the 1920x1080 is listed as it's native resolution but just cant get it to fit the entire screen....been googling it and a lot of people I guess are having similar issues with that resolution, all different monitors, 1680x1050 is still a huge upgrade compared to the 1400x900 I was running on the old monitor.
