one of the comments in the boing boing article kind of sums it up:

The average secondary school kid masturbates fairly regularly, and I'm sure plenty of them would use the internet to find porn given the opportunity. Hey, my school just gave me this awesome new laptop, I can use that!
Let's get the child porn charges a-rolling.

My nephew going into the 6th grade is getting assigned a laptop, he gets to use it up 8th grade, where he turns it in and gets a new one which he uses that until his senior year of high school. Before you say he goes to some upscale high school, they live out in the middle of nowhere, same one i went to and my senior class had 81 students.

I do not see the value in schools wasting money on things like these, there are so many other more meaningful ways of spending money. I can just imagine how much the school pays for repairs, sending laptops in to get fixed, etc. Just so th student can have a laptop........

lols i was the one who showed that to stubs, but anyway i thought it was funny that the kid who got caught was doing something inappropriate, but i mean, it was on his time so i dont know why the school administrators should get involved

Anyway, that is the age group that starts to get...curious

I like your quote, cloak. but my favorite from that movie is:

"Shut up, slut. You were saying?"
"I was saying that makes two of us. I've had my gun pointed at your balls since we sat down."
"That makes three of us."

My class in High School has...900 kids or so? The Cloak needs to c/d this.

About 3000 kids in total at my school.

I think you are in the right ballpark there Stubs, somewhere around that. We do have some rich kids at our school, but contrary to popular belief we are middle class so i mean we do have to watch the school's budget, too. Luckily, the budget does get spent on smart things, sometimes. Personally i would rather have a new parking lot than a freshman volleyball team, but that's just me. If a kid needs a laptop, his parents can just buy him a netbook, it isn't too hard. I mean, we have netbooks in our school, like a mobile computer lab thing, but somewhat-personal laptops, where kids actually bring them home and stuff, isn't really needed. I mean, im pretty sure most familys have at least 1 computer in their household.

Exactly, laptops aren't needed in school (especially in my school) because A. We have mobile laptop carts with ~30 laptops, which teachers can borrow from the school, B. We have at least 3 computers/classroom and the actual computer classes have ~25, and we have a library with maybe...40 computers for students to use.
