ok.. so whenever i go to bed at night, i sleep my computer, so it can get its rest too. but when i wake up in the morning, it on as well. but it wakes up at like 5 in the morning. and its every morning too. i dont wake it, and no one else touches my computer.

what i need help with is, are there certain programs that can wake up a computer?? like somethings that are on a schedule? it doesnt really bother me to much, it just pisses my mom off mostly. my other option is just to put my mom in her place, but that wont end good.

if you guys know anything, help would be appreciated.

thanks!

There are lots of programs that can wake your computer. Virus scan is one, I'd check there first if it was me.

Or you can shut it down instead of sleeping it.

If you are going to put your computer to sleep, use S3 state, not S1, S1 still powers the RAM/CPU, S3 turns those off. Get a bit less power draw over time. Can enable this in your PC's BIOS settings. If you cant use S3, buy a new pc kthxbai

And if you are curious for power draw, turned off the average computer draws 1watt or so as all electrical devices pull power from the wall. In a sleep mode, probably looking at around the 4-6 watt range, depending on how sh*tty your power supply is, it might pull up to 10 watts. Cost wise, thats about 20-25 cents a month give or take.

Is it beneficial? In my eyes no, with the release of windows 7 and very fast consumer harddrives like SSD's and improved platter designs in traditional harddrives you might as well just shut it off. Its what? a minute or so to boot in the worst case scenario? If it takes more, need to evaluate what you install on your computer because thats way too long.

or you can just be like me, overclock and still keep CnQ on so HTPC idles around 40W at the wall.
