so i was at the local dump the other day doing some recycling. i happen to glance over to a table with some stuff on it for free. i scored a computer tower with a amd 4600 duel core,asus a8m2n-la mother board,250 gig hd and everything else dvd drive, memory card reader, tv tuner( which i will toss) an the zip drive. the down fall is i need to buy a new video card, power supply and 4 gigs of ddr2 ram. some reason they only had 1 gig of ram in it to "run" vista. im gettin a power supply from a friends its a 650 watt for 20$. the video card im lookin at is a gforce gtx460.

it is funny people toss out computers for running slow when all they need is more ram. that 6850 looks brutal much better choice.

i have seen many good computers junked because the air vents/heatsinks/power supply was filled with dust and would shut down or run slow. 5 minutes with an air compressor and the rig runs like new. As a result I have a room full of hoarded parts that work just fine. I actually learned how to build computers by taking orphaned rigs home from the dump.

Never even thought about checking the local dump for computers people toss, even though they may still be good. Might have to check out one tomorrow on my day off. Good find man. Maybe i'll get lucky and find a diamond in the rough for myself

Find all sorts of goodies, biggest prizes are when your local small towns have spring or fall cleanup days. Get alot of non-functional equipment but usually something can be salvaged/ebayed off it to make some $$$.

Best find was a 55" Samsung plasma television that had vertical line issues. Took the 'motherboard' out of the back and baked it in the oven. Put it back in the TV, worked brand new. Sold it promptly for 500$ as it was an almost 1600$ television at the time.

LOL the town I live in has a computer recycling day once a year... huge bins of swag to rummage through... I admit I have a problem hoarding computer gear, so i now I only take useful items like ram, soundcards, ethernet cards, laptop dvd roms/hard drives..

the best is when people throw away computers with naked pics of their fat, ugly wives/GF's still on the hard drive.

just picked up a blue star 650 watt power supply for 20$ the guy only used it a few days then got an 850 watt

its running good now with on board gforce 6150.ill get a vidcard when i can. i got my 4 gigs now. been cleaning it out. tomorrow night ill be really testing it out.css an killing floor here i come.
