I got bored with my ATI 9800 pro (128MB), so i decided to try the geforce 6600 OC(128MB) and i was shocked. For the EXACT same price ($250) the 6600 blew the 9800 away. My fps went up 30-40fps and high resolution graphics flow flawlessly. On my 9800, the CS vid stress test gave me 64fps, 97+ on the 6600. Just a little FYI for those who are considering making their next VCard upgrade

He right about the 6600, I tryed ati because it was the popular brand. The first on I got burned out I figured it was defective and replaced it. The second one was an OC X600pro and it never gave me the performance that I get from my vinilla 6600.. I am not a fanboy of either company I just use the best that I can afford.. But judgein from past results I can almost safely say my next card will be nvidia 7800....

I have a Radeon 9550 256mb card... is it pure sh*t? Well, my processor is my problem right now(AMD Athlon XP 1.8ghz), but could my card hold it's own against the newer cards? I know it can't beat em, but can it put up decent scores compared to them?

The X800 beats the 6600gt in anyways, and I think it is a bit compared to 6800/6800gt

TI4200. So probably better at CS:S than a FX5200 :-P even with your fancy schmancy DX9 support. Oh well, I can't play BF2 and that makes me sad :(

True, but the x800 (not the SE/LE versions) are still double the price of a 6600, and still more than a single 6600 GT.

having said that though, my brother recently upgraded from a FX5200 to a 6600 (non GT) 256mb, and even that blows my 9800pro (with XT features enabled) away.

I'm ordering a new m/b with SLi soon, and a 6600GT, that way i can have a little bit more performance in the mean time, but have future room for expansion should a game come out that wont run full speed (and i can find i matching card! :1: )

my 9800 pro is great. i can run the highest settings on video for all my games. i got the resolution on 2200 on doom3 and the performance is great. i have 3 fans and that keeps it cool and not too noisy. this is the only card ive ever had and i dont see a reason in getting a new one for a few years. half life 3 will use the same engine as hl2 and i doubt theres any more advanced games coming out in the next few years. so ill probably just get a new computer by then.
