Okay, so I've built a comp and transferred hdds from another comp, winxp and all. I expected windows to complain about the new hardware, but not to this extent. Maybe I'm just stupid. I've installed all the drivers that come with the mobo and graphics card (sound = integrated). Guess what?
Blue screen of death with the stop error
0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0xba9c8750, 0xbacc342c, 0xbacc3128)
after the windows loading screen, and before the windows login screen shows up (never gets to that; comp must be restarted) as well as an error log in the admin section of the control panel (safe mode works) saying that some drivers suicided. Or something of the sort.
...Help? Please?

You cant just change hardware like that, if you change processor, Motherboard, etc, you MUST format.

You might be SOL cuz you cant really do that. Windows will freak out and try and install the correct drivers for everything on your mobo. (northbridge, memory controller, pci etc....) It probably loaded a million drivers for stuff when you first turned it on and may not be able to go back to the original mobo without the same thing happening. Goodluck.

You should have thought about backing your stuff up in the first place. Do take me as an a**hole for saying that but it's better to be prepared for the worst than not to be. Another thing that might come in handy if you don't have one already is to invest in an exteranl hard drive so that you can back-up your data periodically. I have had too many hard drives fail on me and end up loosing everything. Two western digitals as a matter of fact. Well hope it all works out. LATA.

hmm.. I've never had a harddrive crash on me. and I still have a Pentium 133 somewhere that is functional .. then again I've never really had anything worth backing up, once I do my harddrives will start crashing on me... cruel fate.

anyone ever used a picture of there hard drive.. well thats how it was described to me.. a buddy helped me w/ it back around 99' don't know if anyone still uses it but it saved my ass a ton of times it was like a quick complete reinstall of how you like your computer.. the CIH virus was always fookin me up
but basically to my knowledge it took like a pic of your harddrive of the info and stuff on it.. and using a special program you could just burn that pic back to your harddrive now im just rambling i think i got my point across though

yeah what you are talking about is ghosting. Norton's has a program out called Norton ghost. What it basically does is take a image of the hard drive and your able to back it up onto cds or dvds i believe. You mihgt be a ble to do it from hard drive to hard drive too. Look up more information on Norton's website. Never tried using it yet but i heard it does wonders in some cases. In a sense, it acts just like a restore cd or reimage partition on the hard drive.

Yeah you can do hard drive to hard drive with that.
