When I get the new parts in though, my machine will be:
-Either Athlon 64 s754 3400+ Newcastle w/DFI Lanparty UT3 mobo OR Athlon 64 s939 3200+ Winchester w/* mobo (currently have a Soltek SL-K8TPro-939, but can change it out if I want to
-2x512MB Kingmax Hardcore PC4000
-Thermaltake Silentboost K8 HSF
-Either a Radeon 9800 Pro or GeForce 6600 GT (maybe a 6800 GT if I can find one for a decent price)
-Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB HDD
-Sony DVD-Rom
-Sony CD-RW
-MGE SOHO H2 Case/PSU (el-crap)
I sold my CPU/Mobo off of my rig about 2 1/2 months ago, got new gear, aaaaaaand nothing worked. I've had tons of problems since then, and have STILL not got my machine up and running. Newegg is gonna let me trade out my mobo though due to the problems I've had if I want to, so I'll either buy a new mobo or just sell my stuff and go back to s754 (where I was very happy) Someday when I've actually got money to burn (which will hopefully be sooner than later...) I want to build a Dual-Opteron system, but until I raise the $1800 or so for just the processors, I'll stick with what I've got.
And yeah, DarkShadow's definately got us all schooled on computer power...FX-51 = Pricy

Other than that, the only big thing I'd lose with s754 is PCIe, which I'm not worried about ATM. AGP 8x is pretty much the same speed since the technology required get the full benefit of PCIe 16x isn't really...refined yet.
So I'm still debating...

DO NOT BUY A 754 EVEN IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!!!!!
I found out the hard way and ended up with the really bad end of the deals for 64bit systems.
MSI K8N NEO Platinum
1Gig DDR 400 (2x 512 NOT DUAL CHANNEL!!!!)
120GigWD HD
Geforce FX5700LE 256meg (maybe 6600gt soon :D)
OS: Fedora Core 3 X86_64
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (S754 :'()

That's not a bad system...the processor is a lil on the slowish end, but the dual channel isn't all that amazing. Your system probably loses 5 or 6 fps in CS:S vs. a s939 system with similar hardware due to the higher clocked processor.
Understand ppl, dual channel is not the most amazing thing in the world.

I don't have the funds to constantly upgrade my machine yet, so as long as the components I get will hold me for a little while, that will work for me.
