What I'm trying to emphasize is that despite the fact that s939 does have a few new bells and whistles, none of which are drastically important (maybe a little nice to have), s754 is still pretty nice.
Axodious, for a quick comparison between your s754 3000+ (.13nm) and a s939 3000+ (.09nm), check this out:

Other than quake 3 (where the FPS are already through the roof), the biggest jump I see is about than 6 FPS on a game that's running at about 255 FPS already. There's one that jumps 3 FPS when it's running at 65 already...
The point is, don't fret about going the s754 route. The technology is not going to die quickly. By the time you're ready to upgrade again, there's going to be newer faster technology that probably won't be able to run on most of the current hardware anyways, so you'll have to upgrade everything again!
The only really big reason I'd want to go s939 is the .90nm processors overclock to rediculously high speeds. The 3000+ overclocks to higher speeds than the FX-53. Just have to get RAM that can keep up though...
P.S. anyone planning on buying a video card check out the new Radeon X800 XL. $50 cheaper than the 6800 GT, faster clocks, all 16 pipes open. Should be a nice rival to the 6800 GT (since the X800 Pro failed terribly)
