I have a small idea of what I was going to get, but I wanted to get some opinions on which cards you've had good luck with.
I was hoping to keep in the price range of $300-400ish.

Alright, I got my tax refund, and my rebates from some earlier parts I bought for my next computer. Now, I'm about ready to get a new video card.
I have a small idea of what I was going to get, but I wanted to get some opinions on which cards you've had good luck with.

Forget pcie. Go get a PCI (not PCIe) Voo Doo 3 card. (most of you younguns are too young to remember these) Back in the day they were THE sh*t.
I remember Voo Doo cards. God they had ads for them about every 10 pages in PC Gamer years, and years ago. . .

Basically gaming, and of course, Photoshop. Basically just gaming though. And like I said, my target price is $300-$450. I know there are a lot of decent cards for that price, but I wasn't sure the spec difference was worth say $100 over another version, or different card.

gotcha. well, evryone has their opinion, but i like nvidia. and the option of sli in the future for me is what put me over the edge in buying a 7800gt. thats good for your price range and that's the lowest price u'll find it for, which is core clocked at 460mhz. too bad that one is on backorder but theres other 7800gt's for around the same price range. personally, i kinda wished i got a 512mb card but didnt wanna spend the money. but yeah i got mine for 299$ shipped in 2days. have loved it since. nvidia's software is really userfriendly too, and overclockin was easy w/my mobo. took me 2min to figure it out. but yeah, my opinion is one sided b/c ive only bought one ati and didnt really like their software compared to nvidia at the time. too buggy but maybe theyve chagned. letus know whatchu choose

On Topic: The 7800 series does seem to be kicking some serious arse right now.. but word of warning. If you plan on getting Vista, WAIT! None of the current cards support dx10 or HDCP.. seems kinda silly to bust out so much money on a card right now when everthing is going to have to change in the next year.. But hey, if you don't plan on getting vista.. DO IT!
Edit: I found a pretty decent deal on a 7800 GT.. at least I think it is..
