Alright, new computer is assembled, but I'm having trouble getting this to go. It's not detecting the SATA drive for windows setup. No clue what the problem could be.

Help anyone?

Keep an eye on the bottom of the screen when the blue w/grey bottom windows install screen comes up.

You'll see a message like "Press F6 to install Extra Drivers" (at the bottom of the screen).. anyways.. you need to do this (hit f6) and then using the disk that should have come with your motherboard.. You have to install the appropriate Serial ATA drivers.. Otherwise the Install won't detect the SATA drives.

I dont think Windows before SP2 has SATA drivers. Does your mobo bios detect it?? If so then yeah, as said above, hit F6 and instal loff a disk.

Well. I checked all the connections, and everything is good and set. The motherboard came with a CD with drivers, but no disk for sata drives. And when I attempt to hit F6 to enter the mode to add a drive, it just ignores me. No other time does it ignore my keyboard input except for that time.

I have another IDE drive in there I could use. But it would require formatting it. Making me lose all my photoshop, and various other finished works I have on there. Which if the only way to get the computer to detect the sata drive is to install it after I get windows running, then I guess I have to give up all that photoshop works. :33:

It does ignore you until after it has loaded the rest of the drivers.. if you have a usb keyboard make sure you have that option enabled in the bios. You should be able to get the disk from the hard drive manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer.. and if you have XP with SP2 on disc, you shouldn't need the SATA drivers.

Check out some sites.. you might be able to find the driver you need.

Alright, I have the correct file, but everytime I try to install it, it says error code 4... No clue what that means. Tried putting it on other disks incase the disk was messed up. But same thing. What's wierder is, that this version of windows is SP2. So, I don't know what the hell is going on.

I tried to install windows like you said, but ended up reformating in the end. I'm running completely off the IDE drive. The computer detects the SATA drive off the new hardware panel. But it won't say it's there under drives. I'm searching for drivers for it, to see if that will fix it.

Besides that, my computer is up and running. Just a matter of reinstalling all the programs and getting things back to normal.

If anyone has had a problem with SATA drives after computer setup, let me know of a solution. But for now I'll be working on getting it to work....

sata 150? Cause if it is I had some trouble with windows recognizing mine. I figure out that I had to set a jumper to "only sata 150" on the back of the drive. Try that.
