Shadow thinks Steam was hacked...and he has a good point.

What server doesn't have a redundant psu/generator for power outages. Especially from a service as big as Steam.

Or at least a remote backup server in another location.

If I can't play CS tomorrow, the scrawny kid at my school is gonna have some permanent eyeshadow.

Not the server, the Entire Datacenter.

got through to their forums, here are a couple of posts from them

Blinxx:
"There is currently a wide spread power outage in Bellevue/Seattle impacting Steam Server availability. Unfortunately ETA for when the power will be restored is unknown as the power company will only work on restoring it once the storm has eased and the high winds have died down.

Any issues you are experiencing with connecting to Steam are only temporary, as this isn't an end-user issue.

Please check this Forum or Steam News for further updates."

Maximinia:
"

Puget Sound Energy estimates we will be able to restore service to 75,000 customers by the end of today mainly in Bellevue, Olympia and Whidbey Island.

From: http://www.pse.com/I...rviceAlert.aspx
As of 5:15 p.m. PST, Dec. 15, 2006

Granted it is no guarantee that everything will come back online immediately after power up, but it may mean that we will back online by the end of the day, or possibly early morning. This would be very good news for the tournaments this weekend."

Well I still can't sign on to Steam but their forums are working so whatev...I posted this there in response to a topic someone started about why a power outage is no excuse/servers should have redundancy.

Because Steam is what you get when you combine the fine folks at Valve, who don't hesitate to introduce things we don't want in games, such as advertsing, or $12000 deagles, a screwed up relationship with Vivendi resulting in the loss of a publisher and 1-800 support for HL2, and all the best elements of Helen Keller in her early years.

Seriously, guys. G f*cking G.

EA may give our computers spyware but at least they have reliable servers.

NVM: On my third login attempt it sat there with the login button greyed out and then two minutes later it actually worked.
