You wouldnt notice it for normal every day use. When overclocking though, most people(like myself) like to push the absolute best possible preformance out of their stuff, so insane low timings are more importat for that.

- That's the point right here... Some people (mostly gamers), try to get the most juice out of their system.

OC usually means your system is more prone to stability issues too. If you're building a computer for normal use, there is no reason to OC and put more stress on your system.

Also, what does OCing the memory actually do for you in terms of performance? Memory-specific-bandwidth tests aside, where are the benchmarks that show you get a performance increase (the ones that show performance in games, applications, etc..)? (I'm talking about Conroe only)

ill explain. lower timings equal better overclock ability. Can you argue that?

- Re-read my question "how memory timings are affected with Conroes".... How big of a difference is 4 going to make from 5? With AMD, it seemed to be pretty significant.

For the first part, very few people run an OCed system that isn't stable. The only time I run mine unstable is for benching/bragging, and it's 100% stable when I actually use it for real things/with my real HD.

*edit* tighter timings help with folding times, I can tell you that. You get a higher memory bandwith because it's fewer clock cycles to recharge/clear/charge etc. so there's thess time between reads and writes.

Looks like a good build! I just need to finish selling mine off so I can start buying for my conroe! :D You'll probably get to 3.6 on that board, if you get a good one it'll go higher, though! Good luck with the OC

Is the mobo the S3, or the DQ6?

And that build is very close to what i'll be building lol... that's wierd

Except i dont need things like the monitor and speakers... And if you got the S3, then that would be even weirder, because that was the mobo i was looking at, that or this asus that i also found :wtf: and i'll also probably be getting a GTX, not a GTS :)

DS3 is a nicer version of the S3. It's better than the S3 but slightly worse than the DQ6.

- 8800 GTS is at $370 right now, paying nearly double that for a GTX, is only going to take you from 60fps to 75-80fps on high resolutions

make sure you take a look at these reviews http://xtreview.com/review159.htm and http://www.firingsqu...view/page11.asp and think about what you're paying extra for, before you make the final decision for the GTX card

also, looks like the ZZF and Newegg are having a sale on the 8800 GTX right now - so keep this price in mind, $530 after $50 MIR

Of course you'll get pictures, many many pictures, benchmarks etc. once its all built and once I undo everything that I do wrong at first lol.

Finished building it now I just gotta wait for the monitor and get er up and running. Looks great so far, can't wait to see how fast it runs compared to this thing. And my god cutting out all the upcs for the mail in rebates was harder than building the damn thing :>.<:
