Use easy weapons to fine tune your aim. M4, Krieg, MP5, P90, TMP basically...

and most important; type "cl_crosshairscale 2400" w/o quotes in console.

thankz for that, does make a difference

The number one rule to be a good CS:S player is simple.

DO NOT TRUST YOUR TEAMMATES FOR ANYTHING!

Play as though you are the only one left. Even 5 seconds into the round, don't trust them. I pry on this weakness of players. I'll suddenly rush where none of my teammates go. I kill one or two guys and the enemy teammates (Even with the completely obvious radar system.) that are a mere 20 ft away, don't even react. Then, while they assume their teammates have taken care of me, I'm running up behind them with a P90. Others can attest to how many times I've taken out 5-6 or even 7 people with a good rush because a bunch of people didn't react to my rush right away, and instead put their faith into their teammates to take care of me.

Of course this only applies to pubbing. For scrims (Which I detest by the way.) work as a team, and always work together. And react to other teammate's situations.

Yes, yes I do. But only because you always end up on the other team.

J-Duck's Top 10 Tips

Well you asked for it. If you want to get better this will do it.
This is my Top 10 tips on how you can improve your game:

1) Get good headphones
I think all of my top 10 tips are very important. If you lack in one area it will kill your game. However If I could only give a player one piece of advice it would defanitely have to be this: Get GOOD headphones. There is NO substitute. It will improve your game 10-fold.

AGAIN This is the number one, Numero Uno, Tip I can give any player. If your trying to play with sound through speakers or crappy cheap 15 dollar headphones your game will show it. I know not everyone can afford good headphones....but that doesn't change the fact: NOTHING beats a good set of headphones.

With good headphones (I love my LTB's) You can tell exactly where anyone is withought even seeing them.
This & my #4 tips are the TOP reason n00bs call hacker on someone whos legit.

I.E. It only takes ONE footstep, a slip of the walk key, & I know exactly where you are before I turn the corner & I'm aiming for you before I ever see ya.

Headphones: I recommend something like LTB's 5.1 surround sound headphones (my personal fav) or a pair of Sennheiser's, theres a few other good brands out there too, but those are my top picks.

2) Turn Mouse Acceleration OFF !!!
If you don't know how to do it, DL the CPL mouse fix & run it.
If your still lost and have no idea what this means.....
Mouse acceleration is turned on by default in Windows XP. What it does is:
The 'faster' you move your mouse, the faster the pointer will move.
Ok ya, that sounds kinda obvious.....But its more complicated than that. When I say the pointer will move faster i mean as in sensitivity wise.
I.E. if you move your mouse very slow to the right 1 inch, lets say it moves 100 pixels on the screen.
But if you move your mouse very fast to the right 1 inch, it may move 200 pixels.
Thats mouse acceleration.

In other words it would be damn hard to be consistent in flicking your mouse to your target with mouse acceleration turned on.
I see a guy to the right, how far do I flick my mouse to target him? Well that depends on how fast you move your mouse.
This makes aiming very inconsistent.
Just turn it off.
Yes it will be very weird at first, just get used to it.

3) Lower your sensitivity.
Ok, I admit you should be comfortable with your sensitivity & everyone likes it different. But, there are limits to that.
The lower your sensitivity, the more accurately you can move your mouse onto a target.
If you use sensitivity 5.0 & you turn to target someone & accidently flick your mouse 1/16 of an inch to far you may be off by 60 pixels.....and miss.
If you use sensitivity 1.5 & you turn to target someone & accidently flick your mouse 1/16 of an inch to far, you may only be off by 15 pixels...& still hit them.

Yes, I know it takes a lot of getting used to, if you like higher sens, but with a lower sensitivity you can be more accurate theres no disputing that....theres more room for error.

There are several factors to your 'real' sensitivity. What you set in game is not the only factor. Windows sensitivity & mouse driver sensitivity (if your mouse has its own seperate adjustment software) also effect your in-game sens.

I'll give you an example of what I use:
Stand & face a wall. Look directly at it, 90 degree angle.
Without lifting your mouse or your arm/wrist, turn your vision to your right (or left) as far as you can 'comfortably' (dont strain to push it farther, whatever feels natural).
I keep my sensitivity to where I can only turn about 40 degrees.

I would recommend somewhere between 30-70 degrees without lifting or moving your arm/wrist.
If you can do a 180 its way to high.

Yes I've heard the arguement: 'But I want to be able to just BAM flip around quickly incase someone pops up behind me'
Well its true eventually that will happen sometimes its just unavoidable, but it should be extremely rare.
If it happens even slightly often, then your playstyle is causing you the problem. Unless you just get rushed from both sides at the same time, or your standing around in one place way to long with no one watching the other direction....you shouldn't ever have to worry about someone popping up behind you and the odds are when it does happen you'll be dead before you could turn & shoot them anyhow, so don't worry about it.

4) Spend time practicing your aim & I don't mean pubbing.
Create your own server, password it.
Raise the start money to 16k, pick Terrorist, & buy all the AK's you can. Just incase your 'one of those people'....Don't EVER waste your time doing this stuff with a colt. I dont care if you prefer the colt. The colt is WAY to accurate to waste time doing these drills with a colt. Its WAY to easy. If you can control the spray on an AK, you can control anything.

Pick a spot on the wall & practice strafe shooting.
What I mean by this is strafe left a few feet, Imediately hit your right strafe key (just tap it, to stop faster) & fire (fast dont stand there & take aim learn to do it fast). Then immediately strafe right a few feet, hit your left strafe key to stop & fire. Just keep going back & forth. Run through a couple thousand rounds doing this. Try to get all of your bullets in one spot so it looks like one big bullet hole.

Try 1 shot (thats 1 bullet shots) at a time, then when you can nail every shot in the same spot go for 2 shot bursts, then three, then four, exc....
(I used to practice up to 8, but any burst over 4 and you'll have a hell of a time piggybacking your bulletholes until you get really good at it)

After you get the hang of that, practice peeking corners & doing this. Pick a spot people usually hide around a corner (like comming off catwalk into A, people usually peek over the ramp wall by the boxes or they hide in the corner). Then practice strafing out from catwalk & shoot that spot as quick as possible, immediately strafe back where they would not be able to see you. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

5) Pull down !!!!!!!
Pull down when you burst/spray. If you don't know what I'm talking about buy an AK stand face a wall & just hold down the trigger, pop off about 10-12 rounds. Watch where all of the bullets go....all over the place.
Now reload & do it again but this time: pull down when you shoot. As you start to fire very slowly, slightly, pull down on the mouse. As-if you were aiming lower & lower & lower. Now watch where the bullets go.....probably still all over the place a little bit if your not used to doing this, but it should look a lot better. Once you get the hang of this you should be able to drop 'at least' 4-6 bullets in 'one spot' on the wall, so that all of the bullets holes piggyback each other looking like one big bullet hole. If you get good at it you'll be able to burst even more, although I don't recommend it because you should never burst that long.....ever (well just about never).

Now that you've seen the difference Imagine how much this would improve your kills if you can land all of your bullets in one spot......on your target. Rather than spraying & praying that you random your target, you know where your bullets are going to go.
Control the spray.....Don't let it control you !!!!

6) Practice Flick Shots.
Stand still & face a big wall (like at the end of long A, or T spawn on B site side). Shoot one shot straight in front of you (head level). Shoot another to the right & left a little, about 2 blocks each direction. Then 2 more bullet holes out 2 more blocks. Then 2 more out 2 more blocks.
You should have seven bullet holes in the wall. I'll give you an example, we'll number the bullet holes (left to right) like this:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Stand directly in front of the middle bullet hole (#4). NEVER MOVE. Fire single shots into the bullet holes, as quick as possible, in this order:
4, 5, 4, 6, 4, 7, 4, 3, 4, 2, 4, 1

Then Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Try to do it as fast as possible, without messing up. Each (numbered) bullet hole should look like one big bullet hole, no stray bullets. I Recommend running off a couple thousand rounds like this for practice. If you run out of AK's just restart the server & buy more.
After a while you should be able to flick your mouse and hit your target dead on.

7) Aim for your target, even when you dont see one.
As someone else mentioned, but defanitely worth mentioning again. For the love of god dont run around with your crosshairs on the ground or wherever. You should ALWAYS be aiming where someone might pop out when your running or peeking a corner.
I.E. if your running from CT spawn down long A (assuming somehow we know or think the pit area is clear) The ENTIRE time you should have your crosshairs at the corner of the wall (right wall)...Like your waiting for someone to come running around that corner. Even as you start to turn that corner to peek the Long A dd's....as you strafe around the corner keep your crosshairs 'AT THE CORNER' that way your as soon as you see a target your all ready aiming at them.

This will cut back on the time it requires you to aim & fire on a person dramatically. Once you get the hang of this you should be able to turn corners with your crosshairs 'all ready' on your target as soon as you see them....
then the n00bs will start yelling: Got Wallz?

8) For the love of god....Use those Angles & Cut the Corners !!!!
Ever wonder how someone killed you & you didn't even see them, yet they sware they saw you?? This is probably how...
They 'Cut the Corner' If you don't know what this means I'll tell you. One of the easiest advantages you can get & most people just don't even know about it. Another reason people will starting saying your wall hacking...out of ignorance lol.
Dont ever run around a corner....against the corner.
This ones pretty hard to just explain in words, although its very simple, I'll try though....

Lets set up a senario. Lets make an imaginary corner with 2 players...Player 1 & player 2
(Ignore all of my little periods .... I just used them to line up the walls since apparently I can't use preformat tags on this forums).

...................1
______________
....................| 2
....................|

Ok pretend player 2 is up against the wall, waiting for player one to come around it.
Player 1 is WAY to close to the wall.
Both players will see each other at damn near the same time......
You PROBABLY think 'ya but thats the only way possible?' If I can see him, then he HAS to be able to see me?
WRONG!!!!!

Try this one:
...........1

_____________
...................| 2
...................|

The farther away from the corner, that player one comes around that corner, the better angle he has.
This is what is known as 'Cutting Corners'.
In this example Player 1 WILL see Player 2, before player 2 sees him....

and then the n00b will yell: Got Wallz ?

9) Aim for the 'TOP' of the head.
I know several people will disagree with this one, but dont ever aim for the neck or the chest as others have said. I know I know I've heard it time & time again 'aim for the chest & let the recoil kick up for a headshot'....lol ya go ahead & do that. I'de rather trust my aim & place the first shot in your skull....

Aim for the 'TOP' of the head, not the nose, the 'TOP', like forehead to hair level....like your trying to scalp them. Yes I know it sounds weird, but but but the recoil....your shots will just kick over thier head.......
Number 1, the head hitbox is high, it has been since beta.
Number 2, if your following my tips you should be able to pull down & burst all of your bullets into that one spot, recoil is completely irrelevent.

This one especially takes a lot of getting used to (along with controlling your burst pattern).

You will probably die a lot trying to do it & think that I'm crazy and this is stupid & it sucks. But, I promise when you get the hang of it you'll thank me.
It takes getting used to, just dont worry about die'n. Everyone dies.
You may think ya but I was doing better the 'old' way I was playing, your way doesn't work for me.
Thats only because your not used to it yet. Again you will die a lot trying to do this, if your not al ready used to it. But eventually you'll start to get better at it & die less. If you keep it up and get used to aiming correctly I promise you'll be at a whole different level.

If you give up & go back to aiming for the chest...your game will never improve beyond that n00b level.

and then 8 out of 10 kills will be headshots & the n00bs will yell: Aimbot !!!

10) Get a good mouse.
Don't get me wrong, this is extremely important....even though its last on my list.
The reason its last is that as long as your not using a really crappy cheap mouse you should be ok. If your using a ball mouse....just quit reading & uninstall......

However there are some really nice ones out there & yes there is a difference.

Mice: Everyone has thier preference. I've got one of them all, just about, & I prefer the Logitech G5 by far. Razers are very nice as well 'except' they are very very small. If you have small hands though this might be a plus for you.

Edit: New Tip:
And of course I forgot about one of the most important ones that very few people know about....Interp!
This is another huge reason why it sometimes looks like the person who killed you knew where you were before they turned the corner.
He didn't, he just saw you before you could see him. Its a huge advantage.
Especially when added on top of the advantage of cutting corners !!

Its been written about in the counter-strike report...6-7 years ago & a few other places. Its a long explination & someone has all ready done an excellent job so I'll just refer you to the post on steam. I suggest you read it & watch the videos.

P.S. If you ever watch me play, this is why I NEVER stand and watch a corner.
I always hide, & peek every second or two. If you stand still the other person has an advantage.

Just because its old doesn't mean its dead, you may have read it but new comers, such as myself, have not.
If just one person read it & it helped them in some way I'de concider it well worth my time.

Apparently at least 3 people have read it....telling me its a dead thread lol

Besides even more importantly, a thread like this should never be dead. It should be a tips & tricks sticky.
This is the question EVERYONE ALWAYS wants the answer too. This question has been asked time & time again since the game came out & people will continue to ask it until the game dies.

There is no one that couldn't stand for improvement. Even if you are a very good player, that doesn't mean someone else couldn't offer some advice to help you improve.
