This drive will not read any discs, it just keeps spinning and spinning and nothing happens. Now I've already RMA'd it once and the same thing happens, so it is not the drive. In the device manager it lists it as a SCSI dvd-rw drive...wtf? Any ideas on what to do?

Attached File  scsi.JPG   49.85KB   23 downloads

Heres what it looks like in DM.

And the top one is some old sh*tty drive I pulled out of another computer. Strange that it's also detected as SCSI, but it read cds.

Not sure if it'll help or not, but you could check for new drivers or a new firmware update.

Make sure your ribbon cable is connected well (I know it sounds like a noob mistake but those b*tches are annoying)
This looks like it could be a mobo problem as well. Make sure your sh*t is setup correctly in your BIOS.
Like in some DFI boards you can set your SATA drives to be labeled as Flashdrives.
I'm honestly a little stumped, could also be a power issue if it's just spinning but can't read, I've had a problem where a CD-ROM drive was detected but did not work because of power issues, new PSU fixed the problem easy.

Ah it's something to do with the DS3 and the jmicron IDE controller. I'll f*ck with it some other time but thank for the help. And I haven't done any updates since feb.

I am also stumped. Try uninstalling it in device manager and then hitting the scan button and let windows install it again.

Did they send you a brand new drive? Did you check the s/n? I have had the same product come back from RMA but not fixed

Other than that, replace your cable, try putting it on another ide channel and running as a slave

Disregard that. Get a SATA DVD Burner and be done with it. I might be able to acquire one for you at minimal cost.
