Yeah AMD is def slower, and the numbers do not rank up to p4 speeds (aka 2800+ is not as fast as a 2.8 p4).. I had my old system with a 2.6 P4, then i put all the parts from it into an amd 2800+ box (with an extra 512 ram too, making it 2gigs) and it runs about 2 or 3 times slower in source...

Old one AMD, current Intel. Laptop AMD. I go with whatever I get the best power for price at the time. Let biased preferences be damned.

I used to have an Opteron 165 @ 3.0ghz, now im at an intel e6400 @ 3.2ghz. I build both amd and intel systems from time to time, it just depends on what the person im building it for is doing with the box

Um, AMD Athlon 4000+ runs CS:S at max settings and does the same for BF2 and almost every other game I own and can keep a stable framerate in STALKER at medium settings.

AMD FX FTW!!!

If I was to build a rig right now id would DEFINETLY be Intel as much as I hate to say it. I had to BEG one of my best friends and experienced pc builder to go Intel. My buddy and myself are both partial to AMD, but I have to say right now Intel has a leg up. He just built a C2D rig and he states that it is much faster than he expected.

My specs are below and its gonna have to "hold me over" for another 6 months or so  before I build again.

By then I hope AMD has their shit together or its gonna have to be the best Intel Quad core, mem, mobo and gpu money can buy for $1000 or so.

Seconded, I am running:

Athlon 64 X2 4800+
2 gb of ram
2 x 8800GTS in SLI

Should hold me over till the next wave of next gen games. Had a quad core intel, but I was not wowed by the performance of it, and sold it to a customer. Worked out great, day after I sold the quad core items I had trasmission problems and that really helped out ;)

The 2 x 8800's I got for free, had a 8800 GTS that I paid for, but the 2 8800's I got from Quakecon2007 ;) So I sold the one I paid for and kept the matching pair for myself.
