Whats better, 2 x 1gb sticks of memory, or 1 2gb stick of memory if there the same price?

depends on your mobo but generally 2x1, as then you can run them in Dual Channel mode

Think about it, generally with computers if anything is "dual" it's better than single.
Dual-core
Dual-channel
Dual-PCI-e 2.0 slots
Get the 2x1 sticks, unless your motherboard is a piece of shit, it'll work out better.
