Well I've managed to save up $800 for computer stuff and I've been planning to upgrade my PC for awhile now. I currently have an 05' Gateway GT5228 with a Nvidia 7600 GS (512MB). Here are some specs and more. I'm looking for a new hard drive, video card (Nvidia), more RAM (additional 2GB), and power supply. Any recommendations?

That isn't much a video card=200 ram=80 4gigs of better matching ram 100=power supply 100 drive=480 still enough for a cheap intel board and 8400.The ram you have in there is ddr2 pc5300 you want pc6400 =ddr2800.So if you use the case and dvd drive i suggest a total rebuild and use what i said you'll be allset for a while.

I agree with hatter. I did the same thing and ended up saving a lot of money in the long run. Most DDR2 800 ram is quite cheap any more. 2 gbs of gaming ram is usually 40 - 50 $ on like tigerdirect. If you go with a single video card instead of sli or crossfire go with like a 500 - 600 W psu. Paid $50 for mine on tiger direct. They usualy got some kind of specials on psus. The two things you are going to spend the money on are the mobo and cpu. Like I said before tigerdirect and newegg usually have specials like a cpu/mobo combos. Dont cheap out on the mobo... you will regret it. Zalman Cpu cooler = bad ass... To me $800 is alot but it dissapears in 2 seconds when you rebuild your pc. One of the things you could do also is buy a barebones kit (just the tower) and up it from there. You wont get the better motherboards or cpus but its cheaper and would run pretty good.. the thing is how far do you want to go with your pc...
