this is probably my fave review, does a little bit of design/size comparison and FPS comparisons...plus I prefer Anandtech over most sites ;)

Tweaktown - 4870 Crossfire
Main points...
4870 is better than the Nvidia GTX 260 while costing ~ 100 bucks less(and not far away from the 280)
Uses less power
Amazing memory bandwidth with a lower Bit size (GDDR5 helps a lot!)
Again 4870 is better than the Nvidia GTX 260 while costing ~ 100 bucks less(and not far away from the 280)
Crossfire doesn't seem to scale as well as SLI does(more performance gain with SLI than crossfire)
In addition, for the crossfire faults, if its just a driver issue that can be corrected I'm sure ATI will get on it.

the GTX 260 costs what, like 380 Retail right now? for 299 the 4870 is a complete steal, I'm just waiting for the 4870X2's to come rolling out (can you say the power of SLI / Crossfire in a single card? )

"Following controversial allegations that Nvidia is cheating in 3DMark Vantage and Unreal Tournament 3 benchmarks, executives from Futuremark and Epic moved forward to clean any confusion. However, the game was not over — enthusiasts from Israel ported PhysX middleware to run on ATI Radeon cards, achieving remarkable performance. Owners of ATI Radeon cards will be able to play PhysX games as well, such as Ghost Recon 2 and already mentioned Unreal Tournament 3."

I'm probably going to get the 4850 because of its super cheap price and good performance . Though my friend has one and it gets pretty hot. Btw Ati was founded by Asians.
There is a profile tweak for the 4850/4870, can up the fan speed to give it adequate cooling under load temps. Reduced it from 80 C idle/Load, to right around 45C idle, 55C load.
