I've been using this site as a reference for a while now, he's got a pretty vast virus collection and runs antivirus benchmarks for detection rates and such, figured I should make a more updated post about since the last time I did was in 06 or something :)

Check out his Latest results (June 2008), you'll find that those tests are more accurate than the bullshit Antivirus companies try to flog at you, def. a trustable resource.

Kaspersky is a very good choice, and a little funny info I find is that all the top-tier Antivirus apps (F-Secure, G Data and so on) all use the Kaspersky scanning engine.

the thing I like about it is the ability to completely turn it off and still have the on-demand ability to scan files.

Kaspersky should be first in ranks, f*ck the other anti virus programs that are trying to utilize the magnificent

structure of kaspersky engine to make clones.

Didn't like F-Secure when I used it (due to interface), never tried the other top ones.

Also lol:

49. Abacre έκδοση version 1.4 - 0.00%

And if you have Norton, proof of your failure

23. Norton 2008 - 83.34%

Enjoy your 20 extra processes, invasive UI, and horrible scanning engine.

NEVER LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE AT BEST BUY. EVER. THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AND SIMPLY WANT TO SELL YOU USELESS SHIT.

Webroot is only good for Windows washer (Before CCleaner got released) and Anti-Spyware related stuff, but even then, that isn't really an Antivirus,

but whatever, as long as it works I suppose.

Outpost seems to be the only good software firewall, Norton + Zonelabs = fucking fail.
