Rose McGowan is set to play "Red Sonja" in a new film by Robert Rodrigues. For those of you who don't remember (or know), she was originally played by Brigitte Nielsen in a 1985 film. The character is essentially a spinoff of the Conan series.

Personally, I'd rather see McGowan in a porno...

I didn't particularly like the old film much. Most "chick-based" action movies (recently made ones) tend to be really over the top and lame (example: Ultraviolet, Aeon-Flux). Too much emphasis is placed on trying to make the crowd believe that a woman can be tough, instead of actually writing a good enough story that we don't even stop to think about it.

Let's hope Rodrigues can revive the character and restore my faith in these type of flicks.
