Comparing DirectX 10 in Crysis and DirectX 9 in Halo:CE? Orly Microsoft?

DirectX has nothing to do with visuals in a game, at all.
I actually agree with this, it doesn't matter. That's a poor comparison and MS only puts that kind of thing out there because they know that DX10 has thus far been a failure, aside from how well Aero performs. They should not have made it Vista exclusive. Yes, Windows XP sucks but with its immense marketshare, giving it DX10 would have been much more logical.
Fun fact, Source-based games utilize OpenGL but are compiled for DirectX.

Classtime: Clicky If you don't understand that, i'll explain in inacurate leymans terminology; DirectX communicates between the software of the system (usually the game) and the graphics renderer (your GPU). Newer versions will simplify, evolve, and/or speed up this process (via the difference between DX9c and DX10), but its still basically a communication protocol...the rendering of the graphics is simply up to the limitations of the game (which, as stated above, is a HUGE difference in case) and the limitations of your graphics card...or your system in general...so, the lesson?
