Blizzard is removing LAN play from Starcraft 2, saying there's a feature being incorporated into battle.net.

Link! Read the comments, lol

Can thank the massive amount of software piracy for this one most likely. Removing LAN play would take hamachi out of the picture for pirated copies of the game. Making it online authentication only. Makes sense

yeah this is just the start of this thats going to eventually become mainstream in all pc multi/non-multiplayer gms to have internet access to authenticate the gm before its played. some may figur out ways around it but we shall see wut the developers have in store.

pretty sure that game is going to lose half of its fanbase before it even gets released, but in all honesty, I stopped caring about what Blizzard did when they destroyed DoTA and all that kept the current battle.net going by adding warden on custom / non-ladder games and banning people for using banlist, listchecker, and other legitimate tools for making the game better.

the only thing that can be had from all this is to use a different non-blizzard realm, big deal if it breaks the ToS, they broke the game.

I, in all honesty, agree with Shadow...Blizzard has fallen from its realm of excellence in my eyes. For example - SC2; a nice shine job of the original...a few additions but nothing worth the given wait and hype, and 50+ bucks. D3; a SP RPG WoW-style...whoopdie f*ckin do...im so f*ckin excited /sarcasm. They've (Blizzard) have tried, seemingly, so hard to answer the call of the average gamer that they have created something that no-one, aside from the average ADD 13y.o. will likely enjoy...really depressing.

As for that requiring of internet access, its an understandable evolution, but its requiring every game, including SP variantes, to be a MMOG, in a sense. And lets say the company doesnt want to pay for to servers and personnel to authenticate the game 5/10/20 years post-release...you would hope that an update would fix any issue, but thats all it is - a f*ckin imaginary prayer book. I'd hate to link VG Cats but the comic makes a f*ckin point, as have many forums poster's here...sh*t is getting f*cked up...and it needs to f*ckin change...the Q, being, how?

how you ask? By keeping the greedy corporate jews away from the entertainment industry, the entire concept of gaming has disappeared, and its all become about how much money a title makes.

They are banking on the salivating masses that have been waiting for a sequel since 1997

I see why this can be upsetting. I personally am not all that excited for D3 or Starcraft 2. Why? I really was too young to play 'real' PC games at that time. Additionally, RTS games don't appeal to me that much. Sure DoTA is fun and all but imo FPS games are a lot better.

Either way, Blizzard's goal is to make money. Hell, look at fucking WoW. They made enough money in the first two months of that game being live to pay for the servers for several years. Why can nobody challenge WoW? The business is far too lucrative for Blizzard to allow that to happen. They put work into that game like Valve puts work into their games.

Some people will dislike the direction they think D3/S2 are headed but in the end Blizzard wants money and they are going to do what will make them the most of it.
