but when i power on, i get an ff on the post led, which means it only got to initialize the cpu and then didnt do anything else.
so what do you do when the comp fails to post?
all the lights come on, all the fans go, nothing shows up on the monitor, the power buttons work.
this is frustrating, if someone wants to get me on aim (theclaystah) that would be great

FF usually means Fully Fucntional... meaning the system is running normally (on nVidia boards at least). Check to make sure your graphics card is seated properly and that the cables are connected properly first.
Seconded, make sure everything is fully seated, hell unplug and reseat them all to verify it.
Next step would be to start troubleshooting whats the problem part. If you have a PC speaker attached it will help, as you can tell if the board is actually trying to boot.

no its not that, memory will work at lower voltage so google has said.
useful information:
board: msi 790fx gd70
cpu: amd phenom II x2
code status
FF power on and first cpu initialize
it does not mean fully functional
anything else important you need to know?

Did you plug in both power cables into the motherboard? There should be a 24pin and an 8 pin that goes by the CPU. Unplug your video card and try booting, still the same code? Plug your video card in and try again.
Did you do the memory testing?

thank you for the idiot proofing wondergod, i missed the second cable to the motherboard. you can now all call me by my new nick name: tardtacular.
Trust me everyone makes dumb mistakes...mine is always forgetting to plug in the power cables to the video cards...As soon as you power on though the thing makes a loud squeal and its one of those "DOH!" moments.
I have a special 1.5b2 BIOS for ACC made especially to help stabilize when unlocking cores.
For your X2, did you catch the batch number? It should be on the box if you didn't notice it on the chip.
Also some chips just need a little voltage increase to get the system stable when unlocking cores.
