Interesting article from the consumerist regarding computer optimization services at big retail chains namely Best Buy.
Linkage!
I personally have seen their handy work. Customer purchased one of their notebooks that came preoptimized, brought it home, was in a endless BSOD loop. Some dolt at Best Buy that did the preoptimization from what I could tell shut the computer down when it was installing service pack 1 for windows Vista. Knowing their mistake they just reboxed it up and slapped a sticker saying it was done on it. Amazing! :P
Yes, their rates are somewhat outrageous, but it's something that wont go away. If they actually hired people who knew what they were doing and did a quality job they have a reason to charge such outrageous rates but that will never happen. Hire a idiot that is told just to plop in their Geek Squad MRI disk and do two mouseclicks and have it do everything for them.

The whole thing became a joke to see how stupid customers are after they "offered" a $129.99 installation package for GAME CONSOLES.
Sad thing is I bet there's been thousands of people that have forked the cash over for some retard to plug in an Hi Def AV cable/HMDI Cable, Ethernet Cable, and a power plug in, let the thing update and call it a day...
The worst part is they try to extort more cash out of customers by "Optimizing" every single laptop and computer out there to get an extra bit of profit.
Is why I quit buying ANYTHING from Best Buy over a year ago.

Poor under informed consumers and f*ckING RETARDED PEOPLE
Spend 2 seconds on google and teach yourself how to plug in an hdmi cable, unless you don't know how to use google, in which case you should probably kill yourself
Companies exploiting this market, while it is dishonest, is a valid money-making strategy and there is nothing that can be done to stop it. (not that i'm defending Best Buy).

Spend 2 seconds on google
But how do I use Google with out the Geek squad showing me how first.
I agree with you though, if you cant look at the back, and match the plug shapes, then maybe you should get one of these and practice.
