Well, I've finally saved up quite a bit of money so I've decided I'm gonna finally get a laptop of my own as well as a new monitor. My current monitor is old as f*ck, like 1990s era and figured it's time I get a nice flat screen for my desktop to save space and have a better picture quality.

I've looked around at a few I've liked, come to really like Samsung for monitors. I wonder if anyone has specific suggestions that's great for gaming.

As for laptops, not looked anywhere much. I really wanna get a decently priced yet fairly powerful computer I can play games with. Basically it'll prolly be somewhat newer games yet who knows. So, anyone have suggestions cause I'm lazy to look up laptops? :P

What is the motivation to going to a laptop over a desktop? Just curious as you are asking about buying a new monitor to go with it.

I've really had no problems with Acer monitors. The ones that I've used have
been stable and have never gotten dead pixels. As for the whole laptop
for gaming thing, I highly recommend a desktop.

Generally, gaming laptops that run the real high end games are expensive,
overheat easily, and are a pain to replace components (compared to desktops).
Also, don't expect to be mobile with a gaming laptop. If you are running games,
the battery will drain instantly; thus, your laptop becomes a desktop anyways.

I have a Dell XPS 1730 in my closet that can run a lot of high end games, but I
can't even set the thing in my lap because it will melt a hole through my jeans
lmfao. I prefer the desktop I built after graduation for gaming opposed to my
"gaming" laptop. I guess the only thing the gaming laptop is really good for is
LAN parties, but meh..it's not worth it haha.

Any who, I thought I'd just throw my two cents into the mix. There are a sh*t
ton of gaming laptops out there if you still want one (take your pick). Just do
some research and compare prices, but if I were you, I would head towards
a desktop unless you desperately need the "mobility". Good luck dude.

Who said I was going to use my laptop more than my desktop? lol I love my Desktop and would MUCH prefer to use it over laptop for anything. But, I'm not home right now. I'm at my mom's. I want my own laptop to use instead of her's and her husband's that they need to use and I want it for my own games :P so ya, I want my own laptop for school/work and for travel for games. Or if I want to just play games on one computer and another on the other. I like to multitask.

So ya, this isn't me going to laptops to game primarily. This is me going to laptops for work/school and so I can game when I'm traveling.

Well, in that case, I talked to Zhangt and he got an Alienware laptop that he is pleased
with. I'm a fan of Alienware and Asus for gaming laptops (if I had to have one). Those
are two brands that I have used and enjoyed. However, I'm sure there's tons out there
haha. Those and the Dell XPS 1730 are really the only gaming laptops that I've played
around with. It's more of a preference I suppose. That, and how much money you are
willing to spend on a laptop lol.

I definitely can relate to the whole traveling thing. I visit family often, and most of them
don't even own computers, and if they do then they are pieces of sh*t haha. It's nice to
have a laptop from time to time.

Up to you on what brand you want man :20:. Those are the 3 that I've used (even though
Dell bought out Alienware, so I guess I've technically used 2 brands as far as gaming
laptops go lol). I'm heading to bed, but just out of curiosity...what price range were you
looking at? I'll try to read this topic again sometime tomorrow. Later dude.

Well, what I really want is a new monitor. I found a few nice ones from Samsung, one good 300 bucks that actually has 3D support from Samsung, but not sure whether to get it or not. I don't want anything too big. Somewhere 22" to 24" is pretty decent I think. And I'll check out said laptops. Links would totally make my laziness happy

I know it's a gimmick lol, but I was like "hmmm gimmicks are amusing at times" But really I don't care, I just want a decently priced, good quality monitor.

Very simple really to select a laptop.

1. Go to newegg and go to their laptop section
2. Filter results to brand 'asus' and for graphic type 'dedicated card'
3. Go lowest to highest, pick whatever one suits your $$$ amount
4. Profit???

If you arent sure of how a GPU performs this chart is good for reference : http://www.notebookc...List.844.0.html

Please note that a laptop GPU is not as powerful as it's desktop equivalent. A 5850 in a laptop will run maybe a 5750, or even slightly slower in a desktop card.

Ya I was taking a look at that site. I have a lot I should really read up on cause, well, I'm lazy and haven't bothered until now lol.

Been looking for a good monitor for my desktop with HDMI and 1920 x 1200 resolution and seems this is alright, but the reviews have me going "hmm"

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16824001393

Oh well, at least being bored as f*ck at my mom's I can spend time reading up on this.

Edit: Well if I don't wanna go with newegg and want something now, apparently this is a store in Boulder Colorado that has some sh*t

http://www.ultimatee...10750391&rf=man I'll have to check their listings later.

There's also a Best Buy but eh...

Hmm, so apparently Asus doesn't send Windows Disc with their computers? At least a lot of reviews I've read say such. That'd be lame if so.

That and every other manufacturer. It's always on the harddrive, usually when booting the computer for the first time it will ask you to create the factory restore disks. 99% of people are morons and close it and forget about it. When their computer goes belly up they lose their restore partition.

They do this to save money on shipments, 50 cents a computer x several hundred thousand computers thats alot of money in disks they saved.

My friend said when he bought his HP they sent him a disc (this wasn't too long ago, I think the Envy 15 series). Oh well. Would be nice to have a disc.

Sometimes if you call up the manufacturer and its one of their higher end models they will ship you disks free of charge if its within the warranty period. But most manufacturers has the end-user create the restore disks using the built in tool.

Bonus of this is that you can wipe up all the sh*t off the computer right off the bat so it's a fresh clean install with no garbage on it and then create the restore disks so you never have to worry about removing all that sh*t again.

Gottan HP, they sent a windows 7 with the comp. Regardless, a laptop should be portable. People who buy f*cking 17 18" laptops most likely dont travel alot. However, smaller the monitor resoultion will suffer a bit. Main reason I got this hp is its uber fast, 14" screen, light, extended battery, dedicated graphics card, & has 1600x900 resolution. Its all up to your needs/wants and your particular price range.
