Went with a crucial C300 120 gb, paid $260 for it. Gonna set it as my OS hd and my 10k raptor as a storage hd. I spent hours researching which ssd to buy due to different controlers on the ssd's. At least for sata inferface ssd's the crucial and intel ssd's were usually on top of the board.

I also looked at a pci-e ssd drive... it was uber fast but somewhat beta type hardware as the drivers sucked for it and it was meh at best when it came to reliablity. Cant imagine what hardware will be like in 10 years...

lol bad move, the c300 uses the micron controller, I wouldn't touch anything but Intel or Sandforce, not to mention new drives come out in 1-2 months and are double the speed / reliability for even cheaper.

All the reviews say it has the Marvell controller... is that the jmicron's you are talking about?

Oh and new = more expensive... unless the industry is making them uber cheap. Also limited by my sata 2 interface..

Truth, also there is alot more prep work than just plugging it in and going.

Set your pagefile to your raptor, move all windows log files to the raptor as well. Since the drive has a finite number of read/write cycles all those small files windows creates and moves during normal operation is definitely going to shorten the drive's lifespan.

Honestly I was an early adopter of SSDs and some I've had for a couple years. I haven't had an issue with any of them. Although I'm a little different, if I get 3-5 years out of it I'm happy as I usually swap things out way before then.

Also I wouldn't touch anything but Intel SSDs, although I'm biased since I've had them for a while now and love them :)

must be thinking the original c300's with the micron controller.

@wondergod, this is true, but the fact its lasted so long is probably due to it being Intel, a good portion of SSDs sadly die within the first year, I dunno though I tend to make constant backups of data because its still not proven to be 100% reliable for anything critical.

fuck with the way I've been riding my new 1tb black if it was an SSD it would of died on Saturday.

still waiting to see what Q2 brings with those newer drives though.

Yeh i made sure the ssd i got wasnt one of the micron controllers, they blow. I was looking at the sandforce versions like ocz and some others but the marvell controller had better read timings and usualy beat most of the other ssd's out there. The 256 gb one was the fastest but im not spending $500+ on a hard drive. The raptor 10k i got is uber great and ill have it for years probably but for the speed that ssd will smoke it, yeh it will slow down but from what i read (you all know) they do slow down over time, however this ssd is rated for around 350 mb/s read speads, im on sata 2 so ill only see max 275 read speeds so ill not notice the slowdown too bad due to the overhead of speed. If it last me a year or two ill be happy. And its got a 3 year warranty so anything goes wrong ill just rma the b*tch.
