Need some opinions on what I should get. Already have:

Powercolor Radeon HD 5770
Corsair TX750W power supply

My last rig went tits up right when I bought the Vid card and I bought the power supply after to see if i could get the MoBo to post (obviously it didn't). So now that I've got the cash I'd like to invest in a rig that will last me a long time (upgradewise) and be dependable. I don't care about overclocking or anything like that. I just want to put it together and use it. Have a decent size budget but please keep it reasonable. I want a good performance to cost ratio. Anyway, you get the idea. What I really want are opinions on:

MoBo
Processor
Ram

Open to suggestions on other stuff, though.

AMD 1090T or similar right now are hard to beat price/performance wise.


I personally like the MSI boards for AMD rigs although I know others will disagree. The Gigabyte UD series are pretty good plus they have a lot of selection with their boards so you can pick and choose which features you prefer. Most of the selection of boards are good between both Gigabyte and MSI. Just try and get USB 3.0 and Sata 6gbs now. Even if you don't plan on using them now, it might be good that you have them in a few years.

Asus boards are usually popular too, but I feel only if you are going for their more expensive line, Crosshair or Sabertooth, and even then those two lines aren't all that spectacular.


As for RAM I'm a Mushkin fan, but I know others really like Corsair(I've always had shitty luck with them). G.Skill if your on a tighter budget, especially their Ripjaw series are pretty well liked.

This looks like a pretty bad ass rig. Just make sure you are positive that every part goes with that motherboard. I had a buddy that got a motherboard/CPU combo from newegg and the motherboard didn't support the CPU that was in the combo deal. LMAO.

Case is all opinion really, I mean there are cases that are better but even a "bad" case doesn't really matter that much.

NOO see this is the problem with most of these sets, don't get a BMW and put Discount Auto Part hubcaps on it. If you get any half decent PC don't go cheap on the PSU.

You could do better, not really any kind of performance Hard drive. A WD Black might be better. Or if you have a old HD you plan on using get an 80+ gig SSD. If you need help let me know and I can suggest some.

fuck everything about that build tbh, look something similar to this and play around with your budget. PSU must always be at least 80+ certified / single rail.

around 835 total, download Win7 official ISO + use daz loader, tack on 20$ for a DVD reader and you're good, hard to beat that.

the Asus DCUII 6950 was out of stock when I checked, but any 2GB vRam 6950 will fine honestly.

Well the combo thing was something I thought would be a good starting point. Been looking around a bit and found a few switch ups. Also, as said earlier, I have a nice power supply that I bought last year. That one just came with the whole kit. Here's some changes I've made:

Case
MoBo
Power Supply

Keeping the RAM, CPU, Disk Drive and If you have suggestions for HD and Heatsink let me know. Not using my old HDs.

EDIT: posted this before shadow's comment. Took you up on the MoBo/RAM/heatsink/HD. What are your thoughts on my Case? I'm a fan of simple design

the case I suggested is a bit better in the airflow department, I like the inside of the HAF cases a lot, very easy to work with. just pickup some fan filters down the road; if you want a bit bigger go with the HAF 922 instead of 912.

def. get a 6950 though, even if its the 1GB ones they still rape everything in their pricepoint while using less power and running quite cool, bonus points if its non-referense with a fan on it that actually exhausts air outside the case instead of swishing it around.

if you want a little better cooling, buy these I promise you will not regret it. 2 of these fans for your CPU + This thermal paste + Fan Controller like this... and you're golden in terms of cooling, just hook everything upto it.

this will make your shit run about 4-7c cooler.
