Are you using raid? You know most consumer WD drives have trouble with raid since they have TLER disabled. I don't think it makes a difference in non-windows environments but I could be wrong. Although I do know in raid 5 sometimes the WD Greens give problems since they auto park their heads to conserve power, when it should be the raid 5 controller handling that. It causes extra slow response times and corrupt arrays.

If you are building a NAS of some kind, FreeNAS is great. I've been running it with ZFS for a while now.

EDIT: I could be totally wrong about the WD Greens I haven't built a NAS in a while. Just figure something you might want to check into.

Not using RAID with this build, JBOD. I have my own special way of doing backups of the important stuff.

Running Server 08 R2 on it as I need it to do some other things that freenas isnt able to do for my particular applications I'm going to run. Will be posting pictures of the final build once I get drives copied over and cables tidied up.

that's cool scroll but honestly... after maybe 6 months you'll be lucky if you have half left due to the fail rate on WD 2TB drives, they are the sole reason I don't have 20TB of storage atm in my nas.

failure rate is around I think 10% on 2TB blacks, bit higher on the greens hell even Soulwind can back me up on that considering he bought 3-4 of them and they all pretty much died.
