Hey All.. I just installed the latest NVidia drivers on my computer, and it completely hosed CS. It wouldnt start at all and was giving all kinds of wacky errors about not having DX9.0 compatible... Had to go back to a previous version 71.89, and setting are still screwy. Has anyone heard anything about the 77.72 drivers? Any better versions of the driver to be using? I have the FX5700.. Any ideas would be appreciated...

I feel sorry for ya. As with newer drivers, they don't actually mean better performance. My modo is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Simpler terms, if it's working without probs don't screw around with it by getting the latest drivers. Lesson learned, I've learned my lesson way back.

The new NVIDIA drivers are flaky as hell on my GFFX 5200. I can't even get out of 640x480x16 colours. :tired:

I blame ATI and people with TNTs. :malace:

I guess that's what I get for being a quick adapter of new things.. I figured they would be stable enough to use since they've been out long enough for patches not to F' things up too badly... Looks like Valve patched something, b/c they seem to work now just fine... Weird. NVidia is ok, can't say ATI is much better.

Nvidia tends to abandon old cards when they have done all they can with them. The new drivers are mostly intended for newer cards. If you have an older card go back to the driver set that worked best and never get new ones again unless Nvidia says so. The new drivers probably have nothing to do with the 5200 angrybrit. Go back and read up on the drivers and find the last one that even did anything for the 5200. Sometimes some of the new drivers will even f*ck with the old cards. That came staight from Nvidia. You will probably have a 200% increase just by doing that.
