i just wanted to point out the fun in upgrading. the next time i upgrade is going to be huge. think about it. i would go from a 32bit to a 64 bit. 256mb card to 512 mb card. 1600 res to 2560 res. 3.06 processor to i can imagine amd, theyve been going up like crazy. and the pipelines and core speed of the 512 cards in a year or 2 oughta blow it all away. that things going to be a beast. computer parts are really getting nice and its all makes it worth playing a computer over consoles. thats my thoughts.

I have not upgraded anything except my video card for a year and I can play all the so called "NEXT GEN" games on high, highest, or medium/high. no need to update for a bit now.

yeah i wont upgrade till i need to. last year when i bought my pc, which is my first pc i was hoping it would all alst me through college (5 years) but yeah right. ive learned a lot more considering i didnt know sh*t about computers. thats why i ask the dumbest quesitons, but yeah im guessing itll last me 1 more year maybe 2 tops, which would make it 3 in all. its 1 now. im just saying its going to be an enormous difference when i do upgrade. everything will be twice as fast and more powerful. and riel im not saying if i dont i wouldnt be able to play the new games, im just saying im not getting next gen consoles. horray computers arent getting beat yet by consoles.

Well, everything has it's price. Some guys spend huge $ on awsome components, when 1 year old systems work just fine, like riel said.

I had an athlon 2500+ with a 9800 pro running cs:s and half life 2 pretty decent. Now I have an athlon 64 3400+ with an x850 xt pe, and it runs quite a bit better, and looks a hell of a lot better. But, you can get away with running the newest games on older stuff. But, the guys with the 9600 / 5700 gen cards are starting to feel the pinch with the newest games like fear (having to turn down all the options, etc), where guys like me can run them at pretty decent settings.

I think it really depends on whether you can justify the extra $ spent for the performance gain.
