so bout a couple months ago i read this article in some magazine, popular mechanics or some stuff and here about this new technology that will allow us to save 8x more memory on the same amount of space on harddrives. well toshiba is the first to come out with this and its called PMR short for perpendicular magnetic recording. this changes the position of the head perpendicular instead of horizontal to the surface its writing/reading to. its pretty cool, and hopeufully they got it right since it took them 25+ years to figure out how to do it. heres an example of a drive: stores 80gb and dimensions are 54x78.5x8mm! thats friggin mad small. cant wait until the implement it into 5.25 drives man. shud be atleast a couple years since they only have lik two drives out w/PMR.

That seems pretty cool, I would look into that since my computer is the behemoth of all computers (weight) and anything small is welcome in it.

yeah its small and cool... but imagine how much storage would fit on a hard drive with the same tech, but also the same size hd's as we have now.. now that is what's mad

Thats cool but is prolly aimed at handheld devices. Prolly designed for really low power consumption/quiet/low heat etc. I could care less if my hdds are loud/hot and use a sh*t load of power as long as the seek times are really low. Ill stick with my WD Raptors for now
