I've been hearing alot about the AMD Athlon X2, dual core this and that, but I'm not really sure what the benefit of having 2 cores is. I would think that only a program that was designed to make use of both of them would see any benefit, but maybe I'm mistaken. What exactly is the benefit??

Also, is it worth upgrading from a s754 3400+ Newcastle to an X2 3800+, or should I wait for the next "biggest and brightest thing?"

Dual Core is for multi tasking stuff.. you know hyper threading on intels? thats when it makes the comp think there are 2 processors.. when thee is only just one.. but it can multi task faster.. and this is actualy haveing 2 cores so yeah.. i would go with X2 if i had the dough...

Bleh im an idiot...im think 939 socket not 754...let my re-right this hold on

aside from the socket, i'd 100% agree w/sob. the 4000+ has 1mb of L2 cache on a single core while the X2 3800+ has 1mb of cache split between the two cores. i mean, the dual core technology is tight but it isnt worth getting for probably another 2-3 years in the longer run. by then, theyre prolly be even better dual cores out so go single core and change ur socket and get the 4000+ like im gunna do.

Oooooooh, AAT is saying the end of Q2 2006, so that's a May-June timeframe. That's not bad at all.

Wondering how much these things are gonna cost though...
