Spybot+Kaspersky AV+Hardware firewall= Unstoppable I've never had a problem that wasn't fixed easily. No need for anything more.

Thx Shlonky, gonna try that combo. Im all fd up right now about:blank, smitfraud.c and some stuff called vcodec residing on the machine. Might just whipe the comp and start over, dont really have much to lose on it anyway. Was running Avg anti-virus (sux ass) and zone alarm freeware version. Had Mcaffee before and never had a problem, subscription just ran out so I thought I'd give some freeware a try. I must have dumbass written all over me.

i have adaware se personnel, spybot search and destroy, zone alarm basic, and AVG free edition.

AVG has never found sh*t, zone alarm blocks a lot, and every now and then i have trouble with a virus from websites, i never dl anything tho so not sure why.

edit - i had nortons for a few years, and i know a lot of you bash it, but i liked nortons a lot better, seemed like it worked better. i jsut didnt have 50 bucks a yr for its renewal.

ive also tried kaspersky, spyware dr, spysweeper i bought for one year which is great btw if you got the money for it. but i dont use any of these anymore.

I have about the same setup as Derek there minus Zone alarm (which I used to use). Adware is great, AVG free is well, free and works fine for me. I don't download a whole lot of stuff either.

windows defender ftw. funny that MS had to make an excellent program to repair and protect it's sh*tty OS. Defender really does rule. You gotta be genuine windows tho. Get it here

if you have a variant of coolwebsearch you need CWshredder. It's so small and works so well, get it anyway the scan takes like 20 seconds. get cwshredder here
