ok, this technology has been around for a couple years I believe, but its been getting more and more popular, well, Im mainly posting because I purchased a dvd/rw drive that supports it, and I have to say its pretty damn good, the pictures, and the text burn in very nice quality, my only iff about it is the fact theres no REAL color yet(ie. blue red purple and NO PINK :(, ) anyway it is pretty sweet burning cds with custom labels that are actually burned into the disc itself.

It's just a DvD burner that uses special DvDs that have a heat activated ink on the top that has images burned inside. It's kinda nice, but they take forever to burn the images.

I find it kinda worthless, but that's because I don't really care about custom lables. Text are enough for me.

Yep. It's worth it if you burn a lot of DvD and want to personalize em. I don't burn enough DVDs to warrent even giving it a second look.

yea i have a friend who got this, and they look pretty kick ass. you can import images to the program to burn on the cd and everything. downside is that it takes FOREVER

Yeah, like I said, text is all I need. Spending 30 minutes waiting for an image to burn onto a disk only to have the disk constantly in a case or in a player isn't worth it. It's not like I'll be seeing the image very often.

Its a selling point for Hp and Compaq computers. I sell computers at Office Depot for a living. All of the different brands of computers look the same to a stupid person, then I tell them about the Lightscribe drives on the Compaq and Hp computers. Then 90% of the time they end up buying those because it sounds so awesome to them. They probably never even use it, because its pretty useless.

its pretty cool, and you can also use it when you burn cds, not just dvds, so like all my mixes that I make have different pics,it just makes my carrying case full of cds that much more cool
