I have come to the conclusion that I really hate my job. There is no recent event that has brought this up. I am just sitting at work wondering what the hell I am doing at this place. I have a long ass commute every morning (2 1/2 hours) which I repeat at night everyday. I work about 50 hours a week although I only really get paid for 45.

I can't really say what has brought this on. Yeah I get paid decent at $9.50 (the pay raise I thought I would get didn't pan out as high as I wanted) and my boss is very cool about my hours (she doesn't care when I work as long as I work the full hours and call in the days I am not coming in). I think it is that I am just sick of the same atmosphere. I have worked here for a little over a year and a half. Why I am coming across this now . . . I have no clue.

I am seriously thinking about going up to my boss and just telling her I am going to quite becuase I need to take a break (oh yeah haven't had a vacation in forever becuase I always worked over the summer, X-mas, springbreak, and other holidays). I mean I don't want to piss her off but this job is sucking my will to live. I am actually looking foreward to school so my hours working here can be cut back.

Maybe some of you are in a similar job. One which you hate but keep making excuse or coming up with reason why you should not quit. The only good reasons I can think of why not to quit is money, it is a good reference, and it looks good on a resume when you stay at a place for a longer period of time.

What you all think? I know everyone can b*tch about their work, but is it really worth leaving if you are miserable and dread coming to work everyday? I am starting to think so.

You spend 5 hours a day driving?? Thats rediculous. I'd find a job closer to home if I were you. I'm really lucky and live about 5 minutes away from home, its great.

My guess is that if you find something closer to home, your quality of life will improve quite a bit. I mean if you did, youd have ike 25 more hours a week to dick around (play css)

It's more of just wanting a change. I have the same feeling at work too, been working there for about 15 months. But the only reason I stay is I know there isn't any other job I can make nearly as much money as I'm making.

If you can find a job that will support your needs, then go for it, try and find a job you like. But don't quite unless you have a chunk saved up incase that job you want is harder to find.

This story makes no sense to me Cleric.

You drive 2 1/2 hours EACH WAY to make 9.50?!?!?

I don't understand how you could possibly pay for gas. Is this a typo? If not, man you need to quit and get a job flippin burgers or some sh*t around the corner.

He doesn't drive... he never said he drives... he said he commutes... in this case it's (correct me if I am wrong) 2 trains and a walk.

EDIT:

Cleric, just so you know, $9.50 isn't a decent wage.... I make $16 as an intern......

You guys forget, he lives in Chicago. No car required. Take the train or worse case, walk/cab.

I completely agree with Ezekiel's post. You gotta be at a job you are happy with, but make sure you have some cash saved up so if you don't find it right away you aren't screwed over.

Iv'e been looking on-line all day for new job listings. I think as soon as I find one and get hired I will give my two week notice.

FYI

A: I work at the Field Museum in Chicago as a lab tech and it is grant based money (ie I get paid sh*t) however both my bosses are from Harvard and curators so I have two f*cking awesome letters of recommendation lined up.

B: I never said I drive and Monster was right. I get up at 5 am M-F drive 20-30 minutes to the Metra Station in Geneva which from Geneva to Chicago it is a 72 min train ride. I get off and walk three miles to work taking about 50 min to 1 hr depending if I catch lights or not. (then I do the reverse for the ride home. That is my commute.

C: It doesnt help getting up in the morning when you play CS to 12am or 1am with everyone throughout the week. Might have to stop that.
