Alright, well with college already set in, I've been finding that a laptop would be pretty useful for classes (English and, history of western art specially.) But I'm not looking for a super powerful laptop. Something that for typing obviously, good media capibilities, (Movies and music.) Wi-Fi , and maybe some light gaming as I have a good hour and a half free time split into 2 chunks on M-W-F (As in older games, I don't think asking for the thing to run Red Alert 2 and starcraft is asking all that much.).

So, seeing as group opinion is usually more trustworthy then a singular one. I'm asking for your guys opinion. What brand? What should I look for it to include? I'm probably looking for 700ish range. Possibly 800....

I have a DELL Latitude 600 that I use for work. I run a ton of apps at a time and it does a pretty descent job. It is a medium sized laptop which I think is just about perfect sized for totin around. I'd get something like mine with a little more CPU horsepower and dedicated graphics. Mine has a ATI 9000 or something which is pretty weak but has dual monitor support which I use daily. Overall I'm pretty happy with it as I compute in a most furious manner at work. :1:

Yeah, I never liked Dell's desktops from personal experience. But my mom does have a laptop from Dell that she doesn't have issues with. . . Though, she got it free from work, so, really I don't think she has a right to complain about it...

I've had Dell Laptops, and in my experience they suck copious amounts of balls. But then again I haven't had one in a couple of years so I really don't know how they are nowadays. I say just get something reliable, since you aren't going to be running any real fancy games on it.

I was checking out Dell just now. Man, even on their website they are lying decieving sacks of sh*t.

Includes ati mobility 200x (Or what ever) graphics in price. $939 then you customize it and it has intel integrated in it and the ati costs $90 more. f*cking lying sacks of sh*t.

Edit: Looking at newegg.

Ok, decent looking enough, but there's gotta be something horribly wrong with it for that price besides XP home edition and a 1.5hr battery life. The hard drive must be 4800 rpm...

Get a thin & light 14" widescreen. Easy to lug around all day at school.

Anything with a geforce 6100 or x200 graphics (built in) will be fine for playing most games, even cs at low res.

There are lots of cheap laptops, keep an eye out for circuit city and best buy, always tonnes of deals to be had.

I have an averatec 13.3" (4270) and love it. It's getting a little dated (pentium M instead of a shiny core 2) but it's soooo small. gets around 3 hours of battery. I had a 15.4" toshiba before and hated it. Get something reasonably small and you will be soo much happier if you take it aroudn to classes daily. I think 14" laptops are getting popular (and thus cheap) so you may want to look there. Just read tons of reviews on a laptop before buying it to make sure that stupid things don't happen frequently to users (like the screens cracking etc.)

Well so far after looking over bestbuy, newegg, circuit city, and a few google searches. This seems to be the best overall for the price and has pretty much nothing but good reviews, except 1 oddball.

Macbook with student discount. Im not sure if they still do, but they had a promo thats gave you a free ipod with it.

I bought my iBook for the same exact reasons (School), and it was perfect. Small, great battery life, and OSX rocks my socks.

I will ALWAYS own a mac laptop.

Dell sometimes has pretty good deals online from time to time. Theres ALWAYS a good coupon floating aroung for 15% off any notebook + $100 off and sh*t. Check the [H]ard forums.......

Not a plug for their site, just their prices are much better than even teh EGG if you catch it right. (from what I've read on hard forums anyways as I read that sh*t whorishly......)
