100mbit while moving, 1gbit while stationary, tests have shown up to 3.5gbit /s

http://times.hankook...17381910440.htm

"The throughput of 1Gbps, which enables people to download 300 music files at 2.4 seconds or a movie file in 5.6 seconds, is even faster than today's maximum landline connectivity of 100 Mbps."

"Demonstration sessions took place here at a specially designed bus, which showed 32 high-definition channel broadcasts, Internet access and video telephony at the same time."

Im going to invent something called 8G. Its essentially the same thing as that but with 2 data channels. It'll be out by 2011.

sh*t is going to be a lot faster one day. Coming out with this "New Technology" doesn't mewan a damn thing IMHO untill it is implemented and available.

I'm personally waitng for the cable companies to ditch their RF plant in favor of dedicated fiber for tv/data/voip.

Around here, DSL is way better for gaming.. pings are too variable on Cable because they share too many people on the same pipe.. I'll take a constant 70 ping any day over a ping that fluctuates between 60 and 120..

If they ever make home internet actually work at 1gbit, that would be frickin sweet.. its probably a loong way off though.

Actually, 4G is designed to use 8x8 channels.....

And it really won't be implemented util 2010, as you speculated.

I just like the fact that it's possible, and it will become mainstream, just as highspeed cable and DSL is mainstream (as opposed to dial up).

I'm just drooling thinking about how fast internet and downloads will be after this kind of technology becomes commonplace.

That's going to be quite a project. I say don't get your hopes up... waiting for it to become mainstream will make your hair gray. 2010 my ass.

Definitely. It's not something I'm gonna constantly think about or anticipate, in fact I will probably forget I read this tomorrow, but it's something thats going to be incredible once it becomes easily available to the public. It's just that if this technology has the potential to be that fast, how fast will it be 10, 20, even 30 years down the road? I mean this new technology will be exponentially faster than what is available now, going from 5 gigs in a few hours, to 5 gigs in a few seconds. Amazing. Simply amazing.

24 mbit dsl is already here, and it's only getting better. Remember how dsl / cable was 50x faster than dial up? Well, 4g is 50x faster than 24 mbit dsl. The conversion from dial up to high speed didn't take that long... so keep your hopes up!

24 mbit DSL is hardly mainstream today. And it took more than 6 years to go from dialup to that. 6 years is still not worth waiting imo... It'll come when it comes, if ever.
