I was working on finishing up my Dad's computer. I had just finished installing all the drivers, the thing was running fine and great. So I turn off the computer to restart it, seeing as I had to reconnect one IDE cable to a DVD Drive. I reconnect the cables and go to hit the power button. Nothing, I look at the motherboard and the standby light is off. Shit. I try hitting the on board power button and checking the power supply and nothing.

Question is, did my power supply just die? I'm still more in denial about it still, but someone just set me straight. I was just about done with it and the fucking PSU dies? BULLSHIT THAT'S LAME AS FUCK. I'm really not looking forward to the hassle of sending it back for a refund. Specially after hooking it all up and spending 20 minutes cleaning up the wires.

Shows me why 300 people with positive reviews on a product, and I still get the shit luck. First my HDTV has no sound, now the PSU on my Dad's new computer dies. What the hell is next?

Note: I know this post is mostly a rant, then a problem. But if you have any idea what else it could be, please, do so and tell me.

Well, if there was no power surge or anything i doubt ur PSU just died when you shut the computer off.
Sounds to me like you were messing around with wires when you switched the IDE cable (booo on you for IDE anyway :P).
Anywho obvious things to check for are, did you unplug any type of cable on accident.
The power switch wire, anything like that.
Also, maybe your board isnt grounded properly and when you moved the IDE cable you nudged the MB just right to make it short.
Did you unplug ur PSU from the wall before you moved around wires???
Personally what i would do is take everything out and start from scratch to make sure everything is put in correctly, it should be 1hr tops to do all that.
Also, swapping out parts with another computer to check what is still working is a great way to find out whats broken.
Sounds to me like you messed something up when you moved that IDE though.
But with the standby light not being lite i dunno.
Obvious question .....is that power supply switch turned on??? and plugged into the wall???
There are a lot of things that could have gone wrong, i doubt ur PSU died though.
Start swapping things out and seeing what died/you broke.
AIM me if you need immediate help though.

if the Green LED on the motherboard isn't on, the PSU is dead or there is a loose cable, that is if you didn't knock a cable loose while putting the dvd drive in... Hopefully that helps.

likelihood of dead psu 70%, dead mobo 20%, loose cable 10% depending on your level of expertise. Easy wat to tell though is to grab your computer get it nice and close to his and hook your psu to his board long enough to see if the light comes back on.
