May 17, 2007 - The NPD Group today released videogame hardware sales data for April and Nintendo's Wii and DS consoles were again the big winners, as both platforms dominated all competitors. At the same time, PlayStation 2 sales remained strong through the month, partially spurred on by continued interest in Guitar Hero II and God of War II.

Nintendo DS was the overall best-selling system of April with approximately 471,000 units sold. On the other hand, Sony's PSP, which was coming off a price drop, managed 182,000 units sold.

Despite being in limited supply, Wii was, meanwhile, the best-selling console for the month. More than 360,000 new consumers purchased Nintendo's home console in April, nearly doubling the nearest competitor. The second best-selling home system was PlayStation 2 with 193,000 units sold. Microsoft's Xbox 360 managed 174,000 units sold and Sony pulled off less than half of that, at a meager 82,000 PlayStation 3 consoles.

Exactly the point, Sony screwed up with that pricing and putting the Blu-Ray drive in there, and these numbers show it.

with time itll get cheaper. It still hasnt failed completly.

Yep, it'll eventually drop in price. Then all the folks waiting for that to happen (and there are a lot of them) will get it and things will be good again.

Yeah..but most of the games on PS3 is on 360..and when ps3 drop the price so does 360...so it will still be out number

Ya just the PS3 is alot of money i mean its new but still thats just to much. and on a websire a heard the price is gonna drop soon so me personally wont get it because I have a 360 and it rocks my socks!!

Eh don't get me wrong, I don't think it will "win" or even come close for that matter.

I just think that by the time it's all said and done, it won't have done too bad for itself.

Edit: And if nothing else, Sony will learn from this f*ck up and hopefully not make the same mistake again.

as hd movies become more popular and cheaper the greater format(blu ray) will begin to get a lead. This will greatly help the PS3.

If home is a success and the games begin coming out more frequently for the PS3 i can eaily see it catching up a bit.

For those who haven't realised it yet. HD-DVD has pretty much won the format war. The porn industry announced a couple of months ago that the majority of publishers have chosen to go with HD-DVD instead of Blue-GAY. So a 360 with the HD-DVD drive will still be the better option.

Sony took a chance by going with blue-ray as did X-box with hd, it just turned out that xbox's choice became the more popular decision, thats all. PS3 will do fine.

Porn has a lot to do with which format wins out.

It happened with the betamax v. VHS deal. More porn films were made in VHS format, VHS wins out. Same thing for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

but porn wasnt so easily downloadeble at that time. I think the impact will be way less than what happened with VHS.
