man completely forgot about final fantasy tactics. Another good franchise was the suikoden series. Number 3 blew balls but the other ones were really good

Dunno what I can say console wise, I've always been more of a PC person. Well recently (as in the past few years.) would have to be Resident Evil 4. God I can't count how many times I've beaten that game on both GC and PS2.

Old school wise, I'd definately have to say . . . Final Fantasy 4-6; Zelda: Link to the Past; Tetris; Super Mario Bros 1, 3, and World; Star Fox; Dig Dug; Metal Slug; and Raden II. Just to name a few, as I can't really decide on a true favorite. It just wouldn't be right, or possible to pick one console game from my 17 years of gaming.

Though I wouldn't call it my favorite game by a long shot, here's a thought I had.

Oregon Trail

Edit: Okay so maybe it's not console, but to talk about old games and NOT bring this up would be blasphemy.

Sonic, but only on the Sega system.
Mario 64.
Soul Calibur for Gamecube (one of the few games worth it.)
DDR PS2/Mario Mix. MM always makes me feel like a total beast, it's so easy.
Guitar Hero 1 & 2.
Tekken, purely for Eddie.
Pokemon Snap, for the quest to find every secret picture and owning my brother's face.
Super Smash Bros (1 and Melee).
Kingdom Hearts.
Crash Bandicoot series.

Just to breach the unwritten list of games I love.

Ah yes, I forgot about fighting games. Mortal Kombat 1/2/Ultimate, Street Fighter 2 and some of the early Tekken games kicked ass...

There were also the squad based humor-action games (ToeJam & Earl, The Lost Vikings etc). Classic gaming was the shit.

where's the love for mario kart

Once you play the arcade version, it's hard to go back to console.
You have stupid items, sliding abilities, and get to make little children cry.

I have 12/24 best times on the one at the Chuck E. Cheese's I worked at 'til this past weekend. >.>;;

Mario Kart does own.

Though Double Dash, I think, fell behind the others quite a bit.
