Dell Dimension E510 (Pentium 4 3 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HDD

will a 1 gig ram upgrade help that much?

i like the video card its decent enuff for me..

lately ive been laggy ingame and i need mo powa captain shes givin all shes got..

help or ideas plz

i cant afford anything else right now im puttin cash aside to build one.. i just thought a mere 200 might help this thing for now.. lol band-aiding a pc of sh*t knowing if i spitshine this thing and toss rims on it and a new paint job = still a pc of sh*t but hey its the only way i have to pwn u guys right now..

Well running RAM in uneven amounts is bad because you lose dual-channeling, so you should really have 2GB.

But any increase in RAM will help you I suppose, you should def. get at least 1GB in that machine. And what is your video card?

well depends what setting you run css with....in my case it uses about 145mb of ram, so i would be the same of with a gig if i only used css....nut yea its nice to have one gig, so your choice....you will see some improvements.

128MB ATI Radeon X300 SE video card is what comes in them i guess.. i just want a little more ass i guess i should say.. i cant minimize css without having a connection issue comming back i have to leave the server and come back.. when i do most times im laggy so i do a full steam restart..

i have dsl which is all i can get right now.. not much to work with as far as the connection im affraid..

when i move to va full time its cable for me..

my graphics are fine i like them actually..

any info would be highly appreciated..

I would buy a 1 gig kit, and get rid of that stock ram you have, 1gig dual channel should be fine for now..the ram whould probably do you more good with the internet connection and your computer all around....and maybe somewhere down the line just save up to get a new rig.

Source don't really eat up a huge amount of RAM. Another gig would slightly improve the overall performance of your rig but it probably wont be noticable. Source is very hungry for cpu power....which you have plenty of. Your graphics card is your bottleneck from the sound of it. I would go to 2 gigs scoop up a low end 8800 and you should be cruising until you save some cash for your new build.:)

Like someone else said source dosen't use much ram but 512 is just enough for xp with one or two apps.If you only want to get a gig make sure you get 2 of the same or closest you can of ram for dual channel.I think with 2sticks@512 =1 gig would help the most for that machine for source and windows!!
