400 watt MHD light is perfect for when they are babies... Then you probably want to move up to a 600.

Make sure your buds are in a secluded area because any change in the atmosphere can alter the taste, smell of it... eg. I spray aerosol in my room, and I could taste it... LOL.

Some tips:
- Don't trim the tips of the young plant until the 5 blades are there.
- After you prune a tip, it will take the plant a few days to recovers I believe, to don't freak out.
- Don't discard the pruned tips, they are smokable (word?) and are the most potent IMO.
- DO NOT TRIM YOUNG BUDS! It will severely affect you harvest even though it is tempting, LOL.
- If you want seedless, prune the male segments (stems, branches, etc.)

But in my opinion, pruning is pointless... It doesn't allow it to become is most mature state seeing as you are a trimming the most valuable part of the plant.

At harvest time, (your choice), don't cut the stem at the ground, cut near the top.

Hope that helps... PM me if you need more help.

I take it your doing a hydro set up, if so how much space are you working with and how many "kids" do you plan on having in one room?

, you should plan on more like 12 weeks from start to finish.

Also, you will have a highly unsuccessful seed growth rate, unless you bought the seeds... If you just picked it out of a batch and collected them from G's and sh*t like that, only expect about 4 or 5 to grow to mature plants...

I have done 1 indoor crop last year and am currently working on an outdoor. I'm not expert but I've read a lot online and in books and I'll give you what little advice I can.

1) Seeds: Use purchased feminized seeds. They are more costly but it is worth it. You won't have to watch for males and you will know from the start how many plants you will end up with. Also if you buy them you can pick the strain. The strain I used was white widow. (it was good potent smoke) You can order seeds online from various vendors that are located outside the U.S. They are packed discreetly and can be shipped almost anywhere, including to the U.S. I have ordered seeds online many times and had successful deliveries every time. Usually I order from a vendor in Britain called dr. chronic but there are many others.

2) Soil: I grew my plants in soil because for a beginner it is much easier (and cheaper) than setting up a hydro system. If you are gonna use soil just make sure you buy good quality potting soil. To aid in drainage and prevent root rot I would suggest mixing sand and perlite into the soil. I'd say use 2/3 soil and 1/3 sand/ perlite but it depends on the soil you use. Cannabis likes water but the roots don't like soggy soil so it has to drain well.

3) Germination: Germinate your seeds between sheets of moist paper towel. Keep the paper towel moist, this make take up to a week but they normalyl germinate within a few days. When the tap root emerges and is roughly half a centimetre long it is time to plant it. Poke a hole in the soil with your finger about half a centimetre deep, then place the seed in the hole with the tap root facing down and cover with just enough soil that the seed is no longer visible. You want to make the seed's journey to the surface as easy as possible. Once your seeds are in the soil use a "cool soft" fluorescent bulb to grow your seedlings. This type of light is perfect for seedlings as it is not too intense to shock or damage the young plants but provides ample light for new vegetative growth. I'd say keep your seedlings under this lamp for 2 weeks with the light on 24 hours a day. Do this for 2 weeks or until your seedlings are 3 or 4 inches tall and have a decent amount of little leaves.

4) Lighting: I used a 250 w Metal Halide lamp for the vegetative stage. Had 3 plants under it but for 3 plants you should probably use 400 watt. For flowering stage i switched to a 250 w high pressure sodium bulb that fits into the MH ballast. Using only 250 w lamps I was able to harvest 1 ounce of herb from each plant, which is reasonable enough. During the vegetative stage you should use 18 hours of light 6 hours of dark. During the flowering stage use 12/12. It's hard to tell when to switch over. Some strains will start flowering on their own and some will only flower when the light they receive decreases to around 12 hours. I don't have a lot of experience with this but I let my plants veg for about 2 months at least until they were about 4 feet tall and didn't seem to be growing anymore. That's when i switched to the HPS bulb on a 12/ 12 cycle. Also USE A TIMER for the lights. It is much easier and there will be no f*ck ups that way.

5) Plant care/ nutrition: If your plants are on a timer all you have to do is water them. I watered mine about once a day, making sure the soil was fully moistened. You should always wait until the top layer of soil is dry before adding more water... don't want to drown them. Again they like water but you can easily overdo it. Also for good results you should mix in fertilizer with your water. I recommend using Dutch Nutrient Formula. You can order it online and it has instructions on how much to mix with your water. As far as pruning and trimming goes... I don't know much about this and I think i'll consult mainevent regarding it. I didn't prune my plants at all and they turned out nice.

6) Harvest: It can take varying times for your plants to finish flowering. Be patient, harvesting prematurely will give you less quantity and lower quality buds. You will know when they are ready by examining the little red hairs and crystals under a magnifying glass. The crystals start to turn milky instead of clear and about half of the hairs will have turned orange/ red/ yellow from the whitish color they were before. At this point the buds should look nicely developed. When they were all ready I cut the plants near the base of teh stalk, hung them upside down in a dry, room temperature closet and let them dry. You will know when they are dry. The drier the better IMO unless you are selling it all, then you might want it to retain some moisture to add weight. When they are done drying simple trim the leaves from around the buds. (some of the leaves will have collected thc crystals and should be smoked not wasted. Not as good as buds but you'll catch a buzz.) At this point your shrubz should be smokable although cannabis is like red wine, it gets better with age. You should put all your harvest into glass jars to "cure" them for a few weeks. This will make them smoke less harshly (has something to do with the cannabinoids maturing/ chemically changing... not really sure.) I've heard you can cure for up to 6 months but I doubt you'll want to wait that long. Either way just store your sh*t in a sealed jar.

Alrite that's all I can think of for now. PM me if you have questions about what I said. I'm gonna PM Mainevent and ask about trimming/ pruning. Good luck in your quest to become a green thumb.

Lolz I wouldn't have said I was growing if I was growing in the house that this computer is in. I am only growing outside at the moment (not on my property) and when I did grow inside it was at a friend's house. For the summer I'm living with my dad so unfortunately no indoor. But ya IP traces are a risk. People used to post on overgrow from their home IPs with no problem though, until the feds took the site down.

Make sure you have descent ventilation for the lamp. If you have a small room itll get hotter than fuck.

Most lamp hoods have sections on the side in which you can unbolt and bolt on a piece thatll accept a hose. Cover the hood with glass and bolt a bigass blower on it and send the other side out the window.

That way you wont have an open window that you can see the light. Cops arent dumb they know what MH and HPS lights look like. :perk:

Start off with as many as you can and cull out the shitty ones. Dont try and over do the qualtity either, fuckers grow like weeds.

You can get fancy with nutrients and whatnot but get yourself a 10-10-10 fertilizer. Lots of fertilizer just makes stuff "greener" and doesnt really feed it well.

#1 rule with feeding is read the fucking bag/bottle/whatever.

Overfeeding = death

Keep the tips up baby,

I am not growing near me at all, this IP is from my place in Minnesota.

I will be in a diff state.

Plus I live in a small ass town, 5 plants probably.

Nobody will care.

If I do an alright job, and do 5 plants, what is the approx. dry weight of the sh*t? Quarter/Half pound?

Reccomend me some easy strains to grow.

Ya that's good and all but it is still a felony in all 50 states to grow unless you have a medicinal permit (only few states have that.) Federally it's still illegal either way. So I wouldn't say that nobody would care. Don't tell anyone IRL that you're growing. As for strains, any strain that is compatible with indoors would be easy if you know what you are doing. I used white widow and it didn't smell very much when it was growing which was good. I am doing northern lights next time. Just do it right and you can't go wrong with any strain. Indica strains reach maturity and can be harvested sooner than sativas though. By up to 2 months. Also sativas can grow VERY tall so maybe not good for indoor.

5 plants could yeild several POUNDS....... Depends on how much room you have and how big they get.

with a 400w lamp i wouldnt do 5, id do one or 2. Once they start to take off they get really big really quick.

I think youd be better off with one or two GOOD ones than 5 ones that dont get enough light.

get a bunch started and save the largest one or two.

my 2 cents

It takes an expert to know a lot about specific strains. It all depends on what kind of bud you want. Yes some yield more than others but usually the highest yielding are more commercialized and are lower quality. I'd say just experiment, that's what I'm gonna do. Or go on some weed forums and ask the experts. Now that overgrow.com is gone i dunno what is good for that though.
