Sometimes, when I'm playing CSS, it'll just lock up. The screen with completely freeze with whatever scene it was on, and whatever audio clip is on at the time (Fire in the hole, go go go, etc) will run in a continuous loop.

The only solution is to CTRL+ALT+DEL and End Process, because it says it's not responding. However, when I go back to the Desktop, my resolution has been set to 800x600 instead of the usual 1440x900, and the colors are at 4-bit (minimum). This only happens with Counter Strike, and I can't figure out why. The best I can guess is that something's happened where the computer is trying to use more and more memory and the like, so it cuts down the resolution and colors to free up more system resources.

Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? It happens much more frequently than I'd like. I don't mind the lockups so much as I dislike the resolution and color changes. If I can prevent even that, I'll be happy.

Oh, and my system is a HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop; less than a year old and recently repaired/upgraded BIOS. I've got an Intel Centrino Duo, and my graphics card is an NVidia GeForce Go 7600. I've got two hard drives--one 60 gig, the other 80. I only have about 45 gigs of files and programs on it, counting all the system files.

First, the good news - I seem to have fixed the display problems by adjusting my in-game settings so I had 1440x900 resolution selected.

Now, the bad news - instead of messing up the graphics, the image freezes on the screen and nothing short of shutting down and restarting my computer seems to fix it. Anyone have any suggestions for stopping this or fixing it once it happens?

Also, after one of these crashes, I got back on and my Favorites list was completely wiped out. Any idea why this might have happened?

Yeah, I've tried with several different servers. It happens on all of them, so it's not just the BoSS servers.

I had the same problems will my old computer. It was a Dell, about 5 years old. A good old re-install worked. Also make sure all your drivers are all up to date and installed properly. I remember that I had a video driver that was corrupt. And that messed up all gaming possibilities.

Huh...the weird part is that this system is less than a year old. The video drivers are updated (in fact, I updated them when this first started happening, hoping it would fix it), etc. As far as I can tell, everything is installed properly...and like i said, the PC is more or less brand new, so I don't know why it would need a re-install of anything.

No, I hadn't done that. Is that a free program I can get from some place like tucows or download.com?

Also, I keep timing out all of a sudden. I've just reset my modem and unplugged/re-plugged all of the internet cables, but if that doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what the problem is. Everything just freezes up, and I can only hear the occasional voice communication. Once in a great while, it will recover from it and keep going, but most of the time, it times out. I've timed out around seven to eight times today. It's making the game near-unplayable.
