I have an Nvidia 6800 GT and the past 4 days my FPS has been hanging around 14-25, even dropping to 9! before that I was averaging 70-80. (this is all in css) I had a fried graphics card in my first rig back in 02/03 then waited a bit and for the past 2 years Iv had this alienware laptop. Its gotten me by. I really dont want to buy a new rig untill christmas so maybe is there a reason besides fryage that my FPS has suddenly plumbeted?

Please give me any tips. I cant get new drivers because they are custom made by alienware. nad Iv done system restores, dergaments everything. The only other issue it may be, is the operating system. Only because when the low FPS started, I was also unable to go into standby(im on windows xp). so plesae any feedback would be great.

You have a 6800GT for an alienware laptop? Can you pop open the cover by the card and see if the fan is blocked or dusty? It might be overheating

EDIT: What model laptop

have you tried disabling all extra processes in task manager?

have you recently change any antivirus, firewall or pc security app?

Only after the lag persisted. I put everything on low, turned off shadows, and anti-aliasing. If I play on a server with less that 15 people, it is manageable with minimal lag. I have decided to purchase a new desktop anyways, and use this laptop for school. Thanks for all the feedback anyhow. and wonder, what would be some examples of extra processes?
