Ive heard all the hype about linux and how it is so much better then microshaft so i finally decided to give it a try. I downloaded ubuntu (wow legally!) rebooted my computer and threw it in. I partitioned it onto my spare harddrive and installed it. This took 10 minutes to install, partition, update, and format which is very very impressive. I didnt have to automatic update for 300 years like with ms or hunt for drivers all over the internet.

so i guess the major downside is i cant download random sh*t off the internet, you have to go through that add/remove manager thing. well i think so..im a total noobie at this at the moment.

soo..i ask you guys...what features/addons/programs do you use and like the best? i know a bunch of use linux or at least play around with it

also..ive read a bunch of things saying having a firewall isn't necessary and either is having anti-virus. Is this true or are these people a little too confident in linux?

ps- if you tell me to google it, kindly go f*ck yourself

Ubuntu comes with clamware or something like that. Isn't that a firewall?

I have no idea what you are talking about, you want something so you can install random shit again?
Well that might be a challenge if you are new, but for games and shit you should use Cedaga, but you have to buy it "buy it".
For installing random shit use Wine. http://www.winehq.org/ you gotta type in a shitload of commands to get things to work, but yeah.

The only OS that you have to worry about is Windows. Duh. (OMFG, you knew what I meant, Komit.)

It depends on which functions you're talking about. I've been fiddling with Linux for around two years now, I think. I have a horrid memory. xD

Most programmes now have a Linux alternative. If it isn't already made by the original maker, you can bet there is an open source version somewhere. Often times I just search for ""programme name" + Linux" in Google and a replacement comes up. If not, like Blood said, you just have to use Wine. If you have Feisty Fawn (7.04), it should already be under your menu. It can be a real b*tch to use, very finicky. Mostly you just have to install a Microsoft file into the actual Wine folder and then it should fold out under the wine application.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I'm still quite the noob, but I'm doing my best. ^.^
