WestHost Tech: You are probably already aware of the hardware failure that your server experienced, and I promise you that we are doing everything that we can to get this fixed as soon as possible.
you: Apparently you lost all my data?
WestHost Tech: All of our administrators are working on getting this resolved, as it is obviously a problem for both of us that we both find unacceptable.
WestHost Tech: No, I haven't heard any indication of any data loss at this point.
you: Then it should be as easy as swapping the harddrive to a new server right?
WestHost Tech: Unfortunately it isn't-- I wish it was but there is a lot more too it then just that
you: I understand that hardware failure cannot be predicted, and it's noone's fault, but not having an emergency plan is absolutely unacceptable.
WestHost Tech: The irony of the situation is that the initial problem was due to a failed raid array and that server did not have a hot-swappable drive installed. The part that is ironic is an administrator was currently working in our data center installing hot-swappable drives on all the servers when it happened.
you: So why is it taking so long to get the server back up?
WestHost Tech: There is something more to then problem then I know. At this point our administrators have been so busy working on the problem is has been difficult to get details on what the problem is
you: How many websites were affected?
you: Your 99.9% up time guarantee does apply here right?
you: Hello?
WestHost Tech: I'm sorry, I was checking the wording of our terms and agreements to see how that is handled for the 99.9% guarentee
you: and?
WestHost Tech: It isn't specific as to how it will be treated, but if you e-mail '[email protected]' we will be able to tell you exactly how this will be handled
you: No worries, I'll just have Rome call and annoy you guys....thanks for your time.
